I was happy to be able to take some photos by holding my camera up to my telescope (scope has a sun filter)!
This was about 7:00 pm PDT in Oceanside...

I have had this telescope for 44 years, so it is a bit dusty, but good enough for this rare view!

Thanks amigos! I was just jazzed to get it! I fully expected the 'June Gloom' (coastal clouds/ fog) to be on and have to watch it on TV or Internet... I got home from work, and it was clear and sunny! I broke out my OLD telescope (from Christmas 1967), with its sun filter... and before long, I had it... Was really happy that I could share it by holding my camera up to the eyepiece!

If anyone is interested in tracking wildfires here are a couple of interesting sites.

NOAA - they update with satellite images of smoke plumes etc
    and
inciweb - the webs incident command for all things fire. the information provided here is usually straight from the reports that crews on the ground and in the air fighting the fires give to their local command so its pretty accurate.

My dad was on our state forest service's fire fighting team, worked for rural fire districts, etc. The funding is pathetic. They're sending people out to fight forest fires- and risk their lives- in army surplus from the Korean war. No kidding. Think about that, if it's your house is that what you want to show up to protect it? And yet no one wants to increase funding. My dad saw a fire chief let his own home burn to protect a neighbor's house but we can't vote a tax levy to get them decent fire fighting and safety equipment. It makes me mad.
