I use Krown Rustproofing. My 11 year old Honda CRV looked fantastic (until it was written off in an accident). I was able to hold out for a 2nd appraisal from the Insurance company due to how well the body & frame looked. @ $100 a year, it paid for itself.

We get lots of snow & ice, and tons of salt is used here in the winter. Highly recommended!

I watched the video and wondered whether CF actually dries or does it remain tacky or sticky? The installer was spraying it into some places that you could come into contact with. If you frequently are getting this stuff on your clothes or hands that would be a nuisance.

I got it done two weeks ago...it's still got the texture of gel. I'm pretty sure it stays like this. You, will definitely get it on yourself if your working under there. But this is good stuff.

Had my done this past Monday. Couldn't decide between Krown or CF but ultimately went with CF because i didn't want the mess on my driveway and they didn't need to drill any holes. Was told that all the critical areas can be accessed without the need to drill holes. Both products are good however based on this Technical Memorandum produced by Canadian Army, CF seems to be better of the two. See page 11 and 12.

Thanks for the report. Great Job! Rust is a fact of life here too. Watched lots of corrosion repairs on bridges that usually starts in spring. The steel replacement pieces were all coated with this light green coating. I thought it was some kind of new colour primer at first. Then one day I found a small piece that got left behind. That's no primer but rather some type of epoxy or something. Hit it with a hammer & couldn't even put a chip in it. The wife used it in the garden to stake a new tree. Still looks the same after years. Gotta find out what this coating is.

This is my 3rd year also.....will post pictures in a few years to show how it is working.....so far so good....frame is still black. Usually in N.E. Pennsylvania after 7 or 8 years the Toyota frames look like shit so Toyota Frame + Pennsylvania's salty/briny roads will be a good test of Krown.

    Hi all,

After much research I have decided to go with Krown for my annual rust protection on a new 2018.

I have browsed through all the threads I can find on TacomaWorld and had a couple questions:

    1) A few posts here and there mention that the third gens have existing holes that Krown can be sprayed into, without them having to drill any holes. I talked to the lead Krown tech at my nearest location and he had absolutely no idea what I am talking about, stating that every car needs to be drilled. Can anybody give more details on where exactly these existing holes are in the third gens?

    2) A few posts note that the Krown treatment destroys anything rubber in the car and I have to ensure they fully coat everything rubber with silicone as protection. Do I have anything to worry about, as far as the undercoating doing any damage to the Taco?

Lastly, the two nearest locations are Krown in York and Line-X in mechanicsburg. Anybody have any experiences with these places?

    Thanks!

I've had mine done at Line X of Cumberland County in Mechanicsburg the past 3 years and will be going again soon. They've done a good job each time. The truck will drip for a few days...I usually park on the street for 2 days afterwards but I've had it drip on my concrete drive and it disappears after awhile. The holes they drill look "factory" and are covered with black plastic grommets , I've pulled the grommets out and no rust. I've had no problems with any of the rubber door seals. You will have dirt/dust sticking to the fresh Krown on the frame...as far as I'm concerned its' another layer of protection against the salt. My price is $148/year I believe and stays at that price as long as you have the vehicle. Your truck will "smoke" for a short while when you are driving the truck home.....I have a 2 hour drive each way and when I'm leaving Mechanicsburg and come to a stop sign I get people looking at my truck because of the smoking....doesn't last long though.

The only drilled holes I can see are in the typical spots on the door edges.

I can recommend Mechanicsburg, that is where I go and they are a good bunch. They do this treatment A LOT, so there is a huge amount of experience at this location (others could be similar), but this guy has contracts with dealerships for doing this treatment.

Be sure to hit Pizza Boy Brewing while you're out there, and there's a Neato Burrito across from the shop if you need a quick bite.

Took the Tacoma in for it's 4th Krown treatment today. The frame still looks good....black and no rust after 4 Pennsylvania winters. $148 per year to have it sprayed.

Smart of you to be proactive, I’m in the same boat with salty roads and my 15 is rust free. It’s a shame people end up with rusty frames from not being aware. I give TW 100% credit for schooling me on rust protection, I buy FF by the gal now.

The one "nearest" me is 2 hours away, I was/am hoping one will open closer but until it does I will continue to make the drive.

Same here.....I knew about the rusty frames from friends that had Tacomas but it wasn't until I happened upon this site that I found out about Fluid Film and Krown.

Been using krown for years. I swear by it. Same day I get my truck back from the dealership with my new frame it will get a krown treatment. I bought my truck used, the original owner never had it oiled.
