My thoughts... I would want to utilize the roof space of either one. So for me it would be hard shell with racks or soft topper with exo bed rack. IMO

The most epic setup would be this vvv with a soft topper. Just sell your bed rack and put the money twords an exp bed rack.

I recently realized that my rear bumper with tire carrier coming in a few days, that I wont be able to access the rear cap window unless the tire carrier is open.. :(

doesn't seem bad for a hard top, do you think you'd ever want to remove it? It's more secure, but I like the flexibility of the soft top. Easier to remove or just pull back, takes up less space when off. Do the side windows open on the hard top to access stuff closer to the cab?

the windows slide to vent but they do not open up no. I think i would rather not loose my rack which ive spent much time on. I also use the rack to haul bikes, camping gear, etc. Which if i got a soft top i would loose. I cant run a rear hitch bike rack bc of my spare tire carrier. I think this hard shell is a good deal and i will prob be getting it. going to have to figure out how to mount my megawarrior to the top of it now. I dont really like the base bar set ups. ill prob just bolt it straight to the top of it....

I paid $700 for my snugtop. Haven't looked back since. It isn't in perfect condition either, but it was color matched and I wasn't seeing too many for sale. Yes I could have maybe gotten a little better deal had I waited but $700 isn't bad at all.

Its a difficult decision you have but my 2 cents is go for a hard shell or keep the bedrack you have and make a canvas cover for it. A soft top with an exo-rack is going to be possibly heavier than a hardshell. It is likely a bit stronger but it also is going to be a bit higher.

Sytfu510 had the softtop with exo rack and megawarrior for sometime but eventually got tired of how tall everything was and went to a lower profile roof rack ( prinsu ;) ) and a bedrack that is lower than the cab.

I bolted right threw the shell NFG

I utilized the inside ceiling of the cap, using the bolts coming through I was able to mount rear Led pod camp lights and a ceiling cargo net.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. i think i will be getting the hard shell. i like having my rack to much to give it up with a soft top. Soft top exo cage is cool but i would be starting over from scratch and you are right that thing would be super tall. I have a couple ideas for bolting the megawarrior down to the camper that will allow me to do what CHUX did and add accessories on the interior. Im fired up dude. i have wanted a camper since i bought the truck. I didnt "settle" per say for the bed rack but the rack definetly has its pros and cons. Rack pros: i can access everything from all the way around the bed... which is nice. And its strong as shit but i dont think the shell will be any weaker. Rack cons: its completely open so there is really no security and i cant camp out of it or get out of the weather in it. I am excited about finally getting a camper. Its funny.... i have been looking through my phone at all the tacoma pictures that i have saved over the years that i really like....... they all have camper shells. I guess that tells me something. Questions:.....

    1) Is there some type of weather stripping that i will have to replace?

    2) This camper has some type of electric lock and unlock but my truck doesnt even have keyless entry (which doesnt bother me). I can i just replace that just the standard turn knobs?

    3) Anything else i need to be concerned about when going look at this thing? Latches, seals, henges, etc.... anything that i should pay attention to that would send up red flags

Thanks in advanced guys.... yall are the shit

Like I said my Leer was 15 and change color matched with sliding match cab window. I had the shop throw in a double cab set of rain gaurds on the house to seal the deal.
