I've been planning to use these as well and I'm surprised more people don't use them! Would something like the Total Chaos Bed Channel Stiffeners help out with the flexing?

I have had the 48" rails on my to do list for 2 years. Going to mount 2 to the bed floor and 2 to the bed rails. The rails I was going to reinforce with thick aluminum strips a few inches long, sandwiching the bed in between the rail and the strips. My only concern was with the mounting on the floor of the bed. I may end up doing the same with either strips or one long 48" strip if I can find them. I already bought some camlock straps from USCargoControl with s hooks to secure stuff in the bed. I'm getting close to doing this because I want to line the bed with LineX first.

I like the mounts you got too, but I would like more flexibility with mounting locations. :)

Could you unbolt the bed and pull it forward 3 or 4 inches without too much trouble? I want to put a rail up there too and thought of nutzerts but that may be too complicated. Also for mounting to the bed floor, I thought of unbolting the bed and lifting it a few inches so I can get access to the underside.

I can't find the thread I'm thinking about but someone posted pics of how they set up an l-track in the bed and the underside has all kinds of support struts (if you've got the composite bed) that would make a solid aluminum strip impossible. This guy has a pretty neat set up as well https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-getaway-croms-build-and-adventures.362772/

If I can find the thread I'm thinking about I'll post it up.

Haha that's exactly what I ended up doing. You still need to disconnect the fuel filler as well as the tail lights to get enough room. At that point you might as well pull it all the way off.

I have two sets at home of the rectangular ones. Going to mount them to bed floor, between ribs to help tie down dirt bikes.
Post pics of install once done.

Wrap finger in tape, sticky side out, and place nut on there to get behind bed wall.

I've seen the video that uses that technique for the front of the bed, but what about the sides?

I put the nut in a box wrench and carefully held it on the backside of the bed with my finger on the back. Then I would thread the bolt in from the front.

B good, what if I don't need any of these customs systems yet. Besides garage hasn't had makeover yet. I'm kind of a fair weather + night off + helper type scenario to all that. Unless its 75* @ 07:00 that might help a bit too.

Finally tested and got pictures. Worked awesome and did some hungry valley off-roading with bikes and no issues at all. IMG_0675.jpgIMG_0674.jpg

What tie downs are those? I was looking at Mac's Tie Downs but they are a little too wide to fit in the bed channels for the 2nd gen I think.

Edit: I explored the original website more and found these single ones. Crisis averted

Sorry to bring an old post back to life, but I'm thinking of doing this to my gen1. Little concerned about the strength of the sheet metal though.

Did you re-enforce the underside of the truck bed or just use normal washers? I ask because mine will be used almost specifically for dirtbikes (and a few sport bikes)

It comes with mounting plates for underneath. I have had zero issues with using for dirt bikes and that is on some whooped up desert river bottoms.
