    On board!

I'm going to look into distances and such but I'm thinking I'll head out of here early Saturday and meet up where ever you guys are. Then do white mountain on Sunday when the gate is open.

Any clue as to where you'll be Saturday or is it all up in the air? I'll do some googling to see if there is any camp sites around there just in case.

With my work and my wife's work I don't think a Friday departure is possible unfortunately.

    Glad to hear it.

I'm probably going to arrive so late on Friday I'll just find a spot along White Mountain Road on one of the Turn offs.

We should plan on driving Wyman Canyon Road on Saturday and finding a campspot down thata way, getting up early on Sunday and heading to White Mountain.

Sweet. Are you going to go from the bottom up or top down?

I think I can make it to the 168 turn out by noonish.

I'm interested in doing the trail in my totally stock Tacoma (if possible) but only if I have someone to do it with. I don't really know the area.

At the same time I don't want anyone waiting around for me so...

Top Down and most likely drive back up or do a loop around. I have to spend some time looking at maps next week.

I finally mapped the distance from the Barcroft Lab to the top of White Mountain... 6 miles all above 12000'
Basically the open gate saves 1 mile.

Way too much for my kids to handle. I'll talk to my wife and see what she wants to do.

Well....2 miles round trip. But totally understandable. How old are your kids? I'm not a parent but I would imagine it would not be pleasant if my kids got altitude sickness.
It's the easier 14er, but by no means is it easy.

So my plans have been totally hijacked by my wife. Basically I'm out.

Saturday we are going to get up early to hopefully hit Bishop by noon to find a restaurant playing the Michigan football game (wife was an athlete there so we don't miss games)... So we'll be in Bishop until probably three or so depending how the game is going.

Then we are going to go camping but have no idea where. Camping at the gate would be fine with me but I'm thinking it'll be too exposed for my wife and kids.

So we might camp lower and more in the woods. Maybe here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/G...c9230bf!8m2!3d37.3335257!4d-118.1872997?hl=en

If there is a spot... otherwise we'll just drive around and find something.

Can't do the Sunday hike because kiddos are too young. (Which I'm bummed about). But we might check out the Barcroft station and bristle cones that day.

So we'll be in the same area as you guys but not participating is any of the shenanigans. Unless we meet up for camping Sunday night; but at this point I don't have a clue as to where I'll be.

No worries...I think you'll still have a good time camping. I love that area. I'll keep an eye out for you. What does your truck look like?

Cool...mine is a gold 1st gen with white camper shell.

Heidi (the van) will be with us as well, but probably not on Wyman.

I've camped at Grandview before - it's a nice, big and flat-ish. Definitely recommended. Dunno if there'll be crowds cause of the gate day or not. Maybe we'll come join you if I don't feel like digging catholes. ;)

@otis24 Sounds like a plan. I should be able to hit the 3pm meet. If you run into anything weird going up Silver Canyon from Bishop (that would stop a built truck from making it up solo) try to get the word out. Otherwise, see you soon!
