Ford said they have over 22,000 vehicles already built that they can't sell due to not having microchips for them. They expect to lose over 2 billion this year due to the shortage! That's just Ford!!! It is affecting all of the major car manufacturers.

And those car companies are going have to recoup those losses somehow. I suspect these higher prices are here to stay.

    Probably.

Since the the Tundra, and the Tacoma are going to be all new soon. The out going models need to be priced close to what the next gen Toyota trucks will cost. Probably why there is such a demand from dealers for used Tacomas.

Edit: Although I doubt this will be true. Toyota could price themselves right out of the truck business.

Yep when I bought my Jeep Patriot (MT) back in 2011 I flew from Mississippi to Atlanta to pick it up. Deal completely sealed so there was
no worries but when I got there the sales dude said oh,... hmmm... looks like I got another $500 off for you... they had like 200 of them
on the lot and he said most of his sales were from folks coming in from Texas.

I thought $33,xxx was nuts for my SR5 V6 4x4 when I got it like 6 weeks ago, now the SR models are selling for more than that, heck the SR5's
are listing now at 36-37-38-39 ... at this rate I'll retire RICH in another few months LOL.

What I don't get is every Toyota dealership in my area still has fleets of Corrollas, C-HRs, Venzas and all these other regular cars no one wants. Wouldn't it make sense to halt production on these and/or cannibalize the chips so they can get more Tacomas, Tundras and 4Runners out the door as that's where the demand is?

No those are already at the dealership, and will eventually sell. What might make sense is for Toyota to not build as many cars.

Did you confuse their financing rate with their reliability?

I'm talking about the supply chain, they are probably still getting deliveries of economy cars that will sit on the lot for 6 months.
