Yes. I had two of them. I would have got a third one but they don't make them any longer unless you get four wheel drive. That's why I now have the TRD Sport so I could get the two wheel drive.

Put your foot into it and it will quit ‘gear hunting’.

Help me understand why you recommend it for the manual when you have an auto?

3rd gen tacoma basically has a car engine in it.... and there really isn't anything wrong with changing to a higher gear when climbing a hill....

It's not a lack of power, it's a lack of putting your damn foot down. People seem to think it's horrible if an vehicle downshifts and revs above 3000RPM. If it does that, it must not have any power.

They still make them. See them on the road all the time.

You dont have less power, you have a different transmission. If you dislike the gearing then put it in S5 or S4 and it will be a lot better.

We took the Taco from the flat sea levels of Louisiana to Denver (5280ft above sea level) and surrounding areas (Golden Gate Canyon ~9800ft, Mount Evans 14,256ft) a couple of weeks ago. Going up and down the steepest of grades, we pretty much stayed in 1st and 2nd gear. Of course, the speeds were slow, but this truck just likes the rpms better.

Maybe one of the tuning packages can help you, but the truck did do just fine by keeping it geared where it wanted to be.

5th and 6th are both overdrive gears. When climbing a long grade I bump the shift lever to S mode and use S4, and if it starts going back and fourth between 3rd and 4th I will bump over to 3rd.

I am curious and would be interested to see how some of you actually drive.

I towed my Polaris Ranger the other day. Put the ECT on, S mode 4 the highest gear. Hit a steep grade, gearing dropped to 3rd and had no problem maintaining speed at around 3500 rpms. The truck works for me!:D

How long have you been driving it? The transmission might still be in a learn phase and trying to figure out how to adjust to your driving habits. You also might be adjusting to a new truck. I came over from a stick shift mustang, and the automatic drove me nuts on the Tacoma for a bit. I've adjusted and have zero issues now.

Your right foot will hopefully learn to modulate better. No need for a pedal this, etc, tune or anything else if you can adapt

As an auto tech I work on and drive manuels. I don't like how the ect and pcm control the throttle in put. It is set up for gov emissions and mpg. The is no quick throttle reponce like a trad cable. I am kinda old school when it comes to that.
