Ladder rack

I want to add a ladder/lumber rack, something minimal that will allow me to take home the occasional 16' 2x10, or a ladder. The rear part of the rack should be easily removable. I've got a 2002 6' bed extended cab with no tonneau or cap. It has the factory bedliner.

Any recommendations?

I used to have a full overhead from harbor freight and it was just not necessary, and probably actually made things harder than just buying one of those ^

 

I made what I needed to haul 20' pieces of steel

I need to find the drawings for real numbers

A piece that went on top of my headache rack the other piece would sit on the floor reaching a few inches above the tail gate. I did the math to keep the front under 13.6" Both pieces are simple to remove when not in use.

The down side what you haul needs to be strong enough to support it`s own weight .

I hauled lots of steel home that way

I don't know that I would pay $150 for it when there are alternatives for half that price. If I was buying another I'd probably lean towards the style treyus posted, I think the upward kink in the main tube would help keep the load more stable. I've used mine to haul my 12ft tripod ladder and some 16ft 4x4s. 16ft is about as long as I would go, but it will do it.

I should have mentioned that the hitch receiver is already occupied. I left the hitch in the receiver for too long about 8 years ago, and now it's rust-welded in there pretty permanently. I also would like to use the rack for kayaks, with bikes in the bed, while towing a trailer.

I own a pair of these (in white). Racks slip out of their holders which are bolted to the bed floor and the double paneled bed rails (bolts don’t show). Very solid. I’ve hauled heavy duty 32 footers. Ladders don’t touch the cab roof. I glued on strips of those non slip kitchen shelf liners which keeps ladders from slipping around.
