But tacomaworld being an enthusiast site and finding others who are into their vehicle is a little common ground. Still think it's silly to base it of just that, but it's a shared interest.

    :poking:
It was an energy drink with protein! Haha. I hate coffee and needed some caffeine. I know it's terrible for me, but better than falling asleep driving.

As for jobs, what I make now is just a little less than an actual officer. I do public safety for a university. I'd be completely content if I was at a much larger school. There's just not much that goes on at this one and I'm bored out of my mind.
Yours and @Cuffs advice about adventure and travel and not being stuck. ..
Don't worry I never am! I've never been able to settle one place for long, I can't stand daily normal. That's partly the reason I want to be a patrol officer in a city. Different crazy stuff every day.
A good example about how unsettled I am in sticking places:
Highschool I went from normal classes fresh/soph year. Then Jr year I went to a tech high school half day and regular the 2nd half. Senior year I did half day and the community college and half at the tech school. Spent another semester at community college and then went across state to get away. That wasn't far enough so I spent a semester in australia. Came back home to a local university for the 2nd best public school for my degree in the country (criminology at UMSL). Decided I should join a sorority. Which is hilarious if you knew my full personality. Spent my last semester in online classes in houston. Then came back up to st. Louis.
....so a little crazy there. I need experiences. Also in that time frame I went to Australia 3x, England, Alaska, and multiple surrounding states.

Currently planning a trip with a friend to thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam this November.

As for the job. I need steady background. Ever since hs I was never at one more than a year. Told myself I'd put 2 years in at this professional job and move on.

Also hope to do the John Muir trail in the next 2 years.

    Hahaha you're a good dad.
    I agree.

I once owned a civic coupe with a push bar in the back. It's okay because I'm a chick, right?

So you want to do street patrol?

Do not get a degree in criminology. Anything. But not that.

If you got injured on the job, (partially disabled) what kind of work could you do with that degree?

Get a degree in work that you can fall back on. Accounting. Business admin. Public relations. Sociology. There's a multitude of other areas.

Big city. Big problems. No rest for the weary. It can wear on you after a while.
Small town. Not a lot going on. Boredom can set in.
Burbs or moderately rural county has a little bit of everything.

And my fave... national park service LE ranger. Big city parks like Jefferson Expansion, National Mall... monstrous wild parks like Glacier, Everglades and Olympic.
And literally hundreds of medium parks. And they're all over this country.

The NPS actually encourages employees to change locations.

Having said all that, it comes from learning. (I can't say 'the hard way' because I enjoyed every minute of it) but I've worked for each kind of these departments. (Except NPS). Growing up, anyone who wanted to go into LE, you were told and trained to work in a big city. Options were never mentioned. Had I known, I'd have been career park service. Without a doubt.

......I graduated with my degree 3 years ago....haha
Any degree from a reputable school is better than nothing. I did minor in sociology. Only need 24 credits for it to be a b.s. the only money I had to spend on school was studying abroad- so debt free on that end.

My fall back is photography. It's been a hobby for years. I'm proficient enough that I could make it a business. Though I'd rather it just be a hobby to not ruin it's enjoyment.

Long term plan is 5-10 years in the city/County, then come back out to my hometown. (10k population)

I'd go for the NPS but......well not to get political but there are bills introduced to release them to the states to do what they please. There's a federal hiring freeze. Also when Congress doesn't want to get along you don't get paid. They're highly coveted jobs along with the fact I don't have a ton of nature knowledge to offer, just a security background.

All the BS about national parks changing hands is just that. It will not happen in our lifetimes.
Hiring freezes happen all the time. But they are always temporary. And only to specific jobs. Not LE... no one has never not been paid.

LE is LE. It has nothing to do with nature. Not sure where you get that from.

Sounds like you got a pretty good plan!

Look'n back I'm not sure I'd change anything. I've always been very patriotic and enjoyed serving my country.

LE is great, but I still think you should look into the FBI or CIA. You do need a bs degree.

I personally like undercover ops, hey maybe if I could go back and change something I'd be in the acting world. Haha, undercover ops you become someone else, no on second thought I wouldn't change a thing. Make pretend I'm certain can't compare.

You gotta love that adrenaline hi and knowing you're on your own. No calvary to save you.

Anyway Jess, finish school. Get that BS degree and start marketing yourself. The best jobs take effort cause lots of folks are competing for that slot. Lots of private companies with gov contracts too, but I'd get a gov job first for the resume.

Several years ago I started doing some private security jobs. Great pay but extremely demanding. I believe it's good to reach higher. Get in as much training as possible. If you're fluent in another language that's a big plus too.
