I'm in Broussard and a member of Bayou State Group. Been stalking TW reviewing products and info, I'm new to the 3rd gen Tacoma's but not to Toyota's I've built and used many over the years. I picked up my nephews 2013 to help him out of a pickle and building it up for overland use. 20160201_171745-1.jpg

I'm in Church Point, used to go up to Forest Hill a lot years ago to ride. Are there any areas closer to Lafayette to go ride? Trails would be better than just mud holes, but I'm down for whatever when I'm not offshore.

When I was in High School we'd spend most weekends wheeling and camping in Forest Hills its was an awesome place to spend time. Since they closed it off to the vehicles the only park in Louisiana is Sicily Island that has decent trails http://www.atvdirtbikerecreation.com/. Some of our club members do occasional rides through Kisatchie National Forest

I've been hearing about Sicily Island, so I'll probably go check that out in a month or two. Where do ya'll ride through Kisatchie? My wife wants to go hiking up there next weekend, but I've only been up there once and I can't really remember anything about it.

You'd enjoy Sicily Island but go with someone the weather can change the trails from one visit to the next. Our club did a lot of work out there over the years and did many rides out there. I think they just got burnt out on it. In Kisatchie they ride the forestry roads through the National Forest and take the occasional trail off the main roads just to see where it goes. Ya'll should hike the Backbone Trail its a great weekend trail can do about 8 miles on Saturday pitch camp for the night plenty places on the trail to pitch camp then hike the rest in the morning on Sunday and you're done by noon. I've done it a number of times with my son and his Boy Scout Troop.

Plenty of old fire service roads through Kisatchie. Quite a few "goat paths" as well.

Thanks for the info. I remember taking some old fire roads through Kisatchie during a school trip back in college, but that was years ago and I don't have any idea where that was. I've researching the area and I think i'm going to go up there the weekend after next with my wife and son. We are thinking about hitting the Kisatchie ranger district and going on High Ridge Trail and Backbone trail. Have any of you taken the Forest Hill exit and come up to that are of the park through the scenic route, instead of taking I-49 all the way? Is it more scenic that way?

Same here I'm planning to go spend a weekend and do a shake down run before our trip to Ouray in July. I'll plan to spend the first night at Lake Kincaid then travel to the Red Dirt area where a few club members did some exploring last year. Spending the second night at Kisatchie Bayou and exploring some trails in the Longleaf Vista area. http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5194777.pdf

A few of their photos from the trip.

If you had time to spend. Its worth the visit to the Southern Heritage Museum for a very interesting look into the history and logging industry there 100 years ago. http://www.forestheritagemuseum.org/
