Spent some time around Glenwood Springs this weekend and had a fantastic time. This area might be my new favorite in all of Colorado.

Apparently these sheep are in the area because Mexican Sheep Herders held rights to the land prior to the Louisiana Purchase and those rights were maintained after the Louisiana Purchase. Pretty crazy.

And a small peek into what I've been working on acquiring. It's time to get rid of the RTT.

This. Thanks for cleaning up the disperses camping sites.

We always leave with an extra one or two garbage bags full of other people’s trash/shell casings.

    Same here.

It’s frustrating to pick up after your own kids at home, but it’s fucking maddening to have to pick up after other adults in what should be pristine natural areas. But what else can you really do to make a difference?

Every time I take the kids out shooting or camping we end up picking up crackhead's trash. There used to be a real nice spot to shoot locally that asshats would drop off washers, dryers, refrigerators, tv's and anything else they were too lazy to haul to the dump. The rancher who owned it finally got tired of it and closed the area.
And what is really bad, a few years ago my kids and I went shooting at one of our less frequented spots and we found hundreds of shotgun shells lying all over. That same weekend I was talking to a local firearms instructor and he was bragging about taking a bunch of youth out shooting clay pigeons earlier in the week. I asked him where he goes and he informed me that it was the same place I take my kids.
I cussed him out for not picking up his trash, which he admitted was his. :annoyed:

I think teaching your kids is the best long-term strategy because the twits that are doing this are already a lost cause. Unless there is something truly concrete and genuinely painful that can disincentivize what amounts to childish, selfish behavior, then nothing changes with them. They’ll just go out, shit all over the land (literally, in many cases), and teach THEIR kids that this is acceptable... and the cycle continues.

Not to go on a huge rant (apologies to Phil for doing this in his thread), but I’m beyond over adults acting worse than my 9-year old son. I’m convinced that becoming an adult is the slow process of realizing that you’re not the center of the fucking universe and purging the overarching selfishness that goes with that sort of thinking. Yet here we are, surrounded by a bunch of grown children that can somehow vote, buy booze, weed, and firearms, and go about their lives as if the universal imperative is that their amusement trumps everything else. Including, apparently, the need to join the rest of us in being good stewards of the land so that it doesn’t fucking get taken away. It’s really maddening.

Anyway, sorry about the rant. My faith in humanity has taken quite a bit of late

It really is unfathomable that people have that mentality. And you're right, I don't think it's fixable... just puts a burden on the rest of us to attempt to maintain things to the best of our ability...

I saw this post recently and it made me think of this same scenario lol

Well I said goodbye to the roof tent today. It was a bittersweet relationship. It was nice to sleep in but I couldn't stand the take down process. I'm glad I got to experience it, but it's not for me...

So I picked up a topper. I had been planning this for a while but I wanted a very specific topper. I wanted a modern ARE or Leer cab height topper with windoors. As I found out, they are nearly impossible to find. I had been searching nationwide getting myself ready to drive thousands of miles for one. But... I got lucky and found one only an hour from my house.

Not the best pictures but you get the idea.

Unfortunately it only has a windoor on the driver's side but that's ok... it was only $300. It also doesn't have a headliner but I'll survive. Eventually I'll get it painted black but the white isn't the worst thing in the world.

I'm so happy to have all that weight of the RTT and rack off my bed.

I went from a topper to an RTT, sometimes I miss my topper, but after I mounted my RTT on a trailer, it isn't to bad.

Yeah, I guess it depends on the person. My FJ Cruiser friend loves his RTT but it just wasn't for me. I'd definitely consider like a GFC in the future, though...

I would love to have something like that, but way out of my price range for fun.

Finally got started on this project. I removed the rear seats a while ago but it just became a massive cavity for my stuff. I decided I wanted some better organization and I wanted to finally use the fridge I've owned for over a year... Currently the plan is to mount the fridge on the platform along with a second battery. All the electrical and Redarc components will be mounted to the back panel. Currently the back panel is basically done. I need to trim 4ish inches off the front of the platform so the seats can still move. Then once it's all figured out, I'll cover it with some carpet of some kind. Think of this build as a rough draft. I haven't done any wood working in years so I'm just kinda winging it. I'm sure in the process of building this I'll figure out better ways to do things and additional improvements I can add to v2.

And some better pics of the truck with the topper. Really loving this thing.

Yeah it was crazy to find one so close. I was getting ready to drive halfway across the country to get one. Even then I couldn't find any others across the country...

Made some progress on the platform over the weekend.

I was originally planning on using these hooks as one of the mounting points for the rear panel.

I cut off the hooks, tried them out and quickly realized it was going to be no where near sufficient...

So I just replaced the plastic hooks with some rivnuts. Way better solution.

Here's how I'm interfacing the platform with the existing forward rear seat bolts. Like I said, this build isn't pretty. Just figuring stuff out as I go...

And here's the platform all bolted in. I ended up adding another bracket that interfaces with the rear seat bolts near the back of the cab. It's super sturdy feeling now.

This is the layout I'm currently looking at running. I'm not stoked on having the battery on the platform but I haven't figured out a better idea. When I rebuild this platform I think I might make an integrated battery box underneath the platform but this battery is a monster...

And with the platform "done"... I started on the actual wiring for everything... oh boy

And just to give some perspective... this is the "workbench" I'm working with :rain:
