Let's see some in-progress of the drilling! Did you remove the headliner or do what I read about where you just drill with a stop and insert rivnuts?

I didn't take any pictures while drilling unfortunately... There was too much anxiety lol. I honestly just sent it but I did use drill stops. I did pull the headliner a tiny bit to make sure I wasn't drilling into any wires but that's it. The only issue I ran into was with the OEM sun roof. Luckily the rack clears the sunroof but there was some secondary structure under the skin that I had to deal with. Prinsu supplied plus nuts that are kind of like riv nuts... in hindsight I would have rather used rivnuts with my rivnut tool but whatever. Fortunately it all worked out.

Grabbed some pics of the truck this afternoon. I'm quite excited for this version. I've had this setup in my head for over a year now, pretty much since I bought the RTT. Glad to have it finally all coming together. This is gonna be the setup for quite a while. I am planning to add a few more things like an awning and some more #EAF shit to the roof but that's about it.

Truck looks great! What mounts did you end up using for the cap rack?

So I just installed Yakima 42" tracks to the topper and then the prinsu mounts interface with those. Although I didn't use the plusnuts supplied with the tracks, I just used nuts with large washers to bolt through the topper.

Just got back from a week in Moab. Lots of pics to go through but I can say that I'm beyond stoked with truck's setup now. I'm only planning to make some minor changes next year with a big focus on catching up on some maintenance. I found out my driver-side rear axle seal is starting to leak just 2 days before the trip... :anonymous:

Well it's only been a week and I wanna be back out there so badly... But this Moab trip was the best so far. Last year we did Rimrocker into Moab and while that was fun, it did take away 2 days of being in Moab. So we changed it up this time and just spent the entire time in Moab. However we did start the trip by taking a shorter dirt route into Moab instead of I-70 the whole way and we camped along that route the first night.

That route put us in the perfect location to do Top of the World. Now queue the obligatory Top of the World Instagram pics.

After the first two days, we didn't really have a plan so we decided to just run some trails and see where we ended up. That put us on Sevenmile Rim which is a super chill trail. We did that with the idea of camping in one of the dispersed sites along Gemini Bridges. Unfortunately, Covid brought everyone else out and those spots were jam packed with people and camp chairs posing as people to "reserve" the spot :censored:... So we blasted up Gemini Bridges to go to my favorite camp spot only to find that also overrun with people... mind you neither of these spots were at any where near capacity last year in September... fuck

The more time I spend in this Crashpad swag... the more I fall in love with it. I tried sleeping in it on the ground versus on the cot like I had been in the past and both have their pros and cons. I noticed no issues with temperature sleeping in either configuration. The swag holds temperature very well since it's so small, I assume. When the swag is on the cot, you get pretty serious condensation under the mattress. But, sleeping on the cot is more comfortable. Another thing I found is that when the swag is on the solid ground, I can't sit up in it but I can sit up in it when it's on the cot. Regardless I love it in either sleeping configuration and I won't be changing my sleeping setup for a long time to come (i.e. until I can afford a GFC :anonymous:)

However, late at night, while we were sleeping, this FJ wasn't paying attention and got stuck (nearly rolled) maybe 50 feet from our campsite. No idea how we didn't hear it but this is what we woke up to...

They ended up sleeping on the rock and luckily we were there to help pull them out in the morning.

Amazing pics as always! Lucky that FJ didn't tip, would have certainly ruined their night haha.

I was just over there last weekend, albeit further south near Bluff. I need to do fins n things and some of those trails nearer to Moab, but the crowds and shear number of people have kept me away

Yeah it was wild... a couple inches further right and they would have tipped. They got stupid lucky.

The amount of people there was absurd. Even this late in the season... I can't imagine what it was like a couple months or even weeks before when we went. Spots were full where there wasn't anyone last year closer to peak season... the wheeling trails weren't super packed but the mountain bike trailhead lots were out of control...

Yeah this year in particular seems much busier than usual. I might make a trip out there sometime this winter when there's less people if it's not too cold/snowy. Although I'm about to put studded snows on, so maybe not... Haha

    Great photos!
Which route did you take up to Top of the World? Left (clockwise), right (counter clockwise) or maybe there and back along the left or right route?
I went clockwise and on the way up, I encountered the toughest ledges in my experience. It took about an extra hour to figure out. Pretty satisfying once I made it to the top.
I hope we can wheel together in the future.

Yeah we went counter-clockwise and the ledges on the left side were definitely more difficult.

Got a good craigslist deal on an awning yesterday. Not the exact one I want, but for the price I couldn't pass it up. I want one that allows for an extension to be zipped to the end so I can fit the swag under the extension, but this will work in the meantime.

There are extentions made for these types of awnings. They slide in the grooves and stake to the ground or tied off to another anchor point.

hmm I didn't think about the groove style ones. I'll have to pull it out again and check for that. I know the newer rhino rack awnings have zippers to attach extensions.

Did some more dumb shit today and I bolted a box to my roof. It's the Harbor Freight knock off Pelican. It was only $100 on Black Friday and it'll be perfectly adequate for recovery gear and shit.

You were right, there is a groove for adding some kind of extension. Thanks for the heads up. Now I just need to find one that will work.
