hahaha no... I've been contemplating trading for a 4x4 or lowering my 5 lug... I must say, my truck would look sweet with a 5/6 drop and some blacked out 300c steelies. :spy:

Pssh how dumb... who the hell would lift a 5 lug?? :anonymous:

But honestly OP you have options. Everyone called me dumb for lifting a 2wd truck too... I say fuck 'em. Sure I'd rather have a 4X4 but I grew too fond of my little 5 lugger to just go and trade her in. Same situation as you... It was my first vehicle. Check out the 5 lug section for information about lifts and such. They're out there. Fabtech has discontinued most of their kits made for these trucks but Doetsch Tech still makes some:
    http://www.doetsch-shocks.com/22.asp
Sure you can trade in and be one of the thousands of trucks on her that are identical (plate bumpers, sliders, Eibach coils, 5100s, Wheeler's leaf packs, yadda yadda yadda). I vote keeping the 5 lug and being unique.

I use my trucks bed to much to lower the whole thing I use it to haul my atv trailer and we know that wouldt work out to well. But I'm soon to get my fathers 06 tundra when I leave for Western Carolina next fall so keeping my 5 lug stock and kept clean sounds to me to be the best option, I am very proud of my truck and knowing that it will run forever oh yeah and you can't beat the mpg. I appreciate the advice and the comments posted you've been a big help

Well this thread has helped me immensely. Seeing as I really wanted to lift my 5 lugger. But now idk what to do. I hate the way they looked dropped, and I wanted to lift it so badly.. I hate being a poor college dude who has to pay for damn near everything on my own.

Finish school, get the internships and make the real $. You'll want to keep your 5lugger as a DD and buy that expensive toy later. It'll be well worth the wait.

A friend had his 97 lifted with a spindle kit up front and add a leafs in the rear. It sat level and cleared 30 inch tires. I think it was a three inch in the front and maybe only an inch in the back.

The spindle lift made the front track width wider. It didn't look bad, but it was noticeable.

The truck looked close to a stock 4x4 when it was done. Not quite as high, but looked good.

I want to say it was a Fab Tech lift. It came from 4 Wheel Parts

I have a 5 lug 2.4 too and I love my truck...... I lifted it with the spindles and daystar spacers in the front and shackles in the back! Almost as high as the pre runner! At least we get the best mpg.....check out my build

For all of you 5 lug guys that want the look of a 4x4 but have no cash, think about this.

My truck is on 235's with small spacers in the front to level it out just a little.
Mileage is good, for a slightly underpowered truck and the more "rugged" tires take me a big further than standard street treads.

My current plan is to finish my A.A. degree and enlist in the Air Force, hopefully to Security Forces, or a Motor Pool.

Where did you get the spacers?

They were some old one's laying around in the garage. They're the type that just screw/twist in to the coil springs.

i would start lookin in local pick a parts/ebay/craiglist for pre runner parts and swap the parts over to yours. Alot of it should just bolt on. plus you would learn alot about truck my frist tacoma was a 2000 prerunner with the 4 cyld. auto i was young and i had alot of good time in it but it is nice having the power of the 4.0. I miss my 05 4x4 with the six speed to bad it turned out to be a lemon. now i dirve another 05 pre runner, But i do miss beating on that 2000.

I doubt that'll work... I've never been under a 6 lug but I doubt even the frames are the same. The suspension setup is a totally different animal as well.

I would look into it alot of car manufacturers will keep the frames and bolt setups the same so production is fast so what ever comes down the line they just bolt on if its a 2wd, prerunner, 4x4 etc. there all built off the same platfrom for exmaple take dodge the challenger, charger, 300 are all built of the same frame. But if you have a buddy with a 6 lug park them side by side and take some Measurement.
