First mod musings and install report :

Wrap the truck in paint protection film, noise insulate the interior. For the life of me, I could not stand how loud the inside of the cab was. Coming from a land cruiser, it's incredible how terrible the NVH is in the Tacoma. We had previously wrapped our 200 series landcruiser in 3M scotchgard paint protection film and are still impressed with it's durability to hold up to pin striping. We set about researching the material cost for doing the same on the tacoma. We then stumbled upon graphic PPF by flexishield : https://www.flexishieldusa.com/products/color-paint-protection-film-ppf/

We then requested some samples to see how it would look on the truck and to see how the material reacts under heat and pressure. Once we narrowed down our color, we decided to pull the trigger and buy a giant roll of 72" wide x 60 ft long material. When shopping around for professional installation, we were flabbergasted by the costs...4k up to 10k! Time to roll up our sleeves..

We started out by washing the truck numerous times to make sure the paint surfaces were immaculate

When wrapping the bedsides, we removed the top caps to waterproof the bed with isobutyl strips when it was off

Since we wanted the wrap to look as clean and complete as possible, we decided to strip the entire interior and noise insulate the cab. I dropped the headliner as well to get a clean wrap under the shark fin antenna :

As you can see, the "moonbeam" PPF from flexishield looks incredible under specific lighting conditions!

I drilled the fuel filler door rivets to remove the door and wrap it for a clean look around the edges :

80 mil isobutyle sheets went on the floor and back wall of the cab. 40 mil sheets went on the doors and roof. I am now kicking myself for not upgrading the piss poor factory speakers when I had the door panels off. We are by no means experts at wrapping a vehicle, so now I can fully understand the labor costs for doing a job like this.

We took advantage of RCI's black friday sale and picked up a set of their sliders and skid plates. I wanted to go with the raw sliders and put 2k clear over them, but the main boss decided against it so here we are. RCI's quality does not blow me away, but it will do the job since this will not be a dedicated rock crawler. They didn't pack the hardware for the top plates so they rushed out a set.

I cleaned off the current layer of wool wax and coated the frame and slider with cosmoline instead. I put medium-strength loctite on all fasteners and coated each fastener with cosmoline. The look of raw aluminum was great, so I'm going to try to prevent pitting by regularly wiping on collinite 850 metal wax. Time will tell how it holds up!

With the wrap completed, we applied edge tape to all areas to make sure it stays put. It's a bit overkill, but that will be the main theme of this build overall. Overkill. We could not be happier with the way it turned out. Under specific lighting conditions, the wrap is so subtle that you could not even tell. However, once under the sun, the color changes really stands out!!!

Poser rock . Can't even tell it's wrapped

Overhead shot. That color change is insane

Side shot. The rainbow hue changes depending on the angle at which you're viewing it at

Looks like a fun project. Helps when cost is no object (apparently). Looking forward to seeing what's next.

We ordered an Alu-Cab modcap and family tent with all sorts of accessories. We decided to do the installation ourselves, despite knowing that alu-cab's instructions are convoluted and confusing at best. We first installed a subfloor out of 3/4" marine grade plywood and lined it with heavy-duty vinyl coin flooring. So far so good - we're patiently waiting for the enormous amounts of sika flex used to seal the modcap to the bed to completely dry before we water test the modcap. The family tent should be coming in at the end of January. We're currently planning out the interior for plumbing water, electrical system layout, and diesel heater arrangements.

A long range America tank, locked offroad shocks, and archive garage parts will soon arrive. Stay tuned for install updates as January / February are going to be crazy!

Sweet, how did you wire your 3rd brake light for the contour?

    YouTube vids, lol...
    Google also:
The 3D brake light on an Alu Cab Contour is typically wired directly to the vehicle's existing brake light circuit, meaning the positive wire from the brake light is connected to the positive wire on the 3D brake light, and the negative wire is connected to the vehicle's ground, allowing the light to illuminate only when the brakes are applied; you'll need to access the wiring harness near the taillight assembly to splice into the appropriate brake light wires

Currently installing a backwoods adventure bumper with a Warn Evo VR winch.

The wife did an excellent job wrapping the R4T Bumper caps with the same graphic PPF that we used to wrap the entire truck.

Additional OCD steps during installation :

    - Disassembled winch to inspect grease and apply some anti corrosion sealant on electrical terminals
    - Made new +/- cables for the winch with 2 gauge wire and better terminals, then sheathed each wire
    - Sprayed the steel winch cradle with cosmoline to prevent corrosion
    - Wrapped the last few turns of winch line on the drum with high visibility sheathing
    - wrapped the first bit of winch line with a sleeve

    Remaining to do list :

    - The wife likes the current grill, so I plan to use plastic gutter guard behind it to prevent any damage to coolers behind it
    - install cube lights and driving lights
    - Drive the truck until empty - well be installing a long range tank this weekend after painting it in raptor coat

I’ve currently got that grill, I’ve seen it painted black and it looks good.

You can also get emblem covers for the grill that don’t mess with TSS
