Anyone done this on their 1st gen tacomas?

Pics? Suggestions? Needing to upgrade my current alt. I have been debating bama's 250a alternators. But if I went that route id want to do 2.

My power consumption is about to double shortly and don't like voltage drop

I'm not sure what it was like in the 1st gen days, but the 4.0 had option for two alternators. The "tow" alternator had a higher output. If you have the standard alternator for your year, there might be a factory high output alternator available that would be a simple bolt in.

Likely, a gm alternator won't bolt straight up. You would have to make a bracket to adapt it. You also have to be considerate of the belt; not only that the belt is the same shape to line up, but that the pulley is the correct diameter based on how fast the belt moves. You would have to compare the crankshaft main pulley diameter on your engine to that of the doner model. If they aren't the same, then you will need to figure out about a new pulley that compensates for that difference.

Anyways blackdawg has enlightened me and the large case gm Cadillac fleetwood Alts are almost a direct fit just need 1/4 in of washers on the back side to fit tightly and mechman makes a 370a for the fleet wood so that is an option for the 3.4l ... Just need to make sure you wire it up properly blackdawg also knows the correct wiring FYI

I will say that as long as the bigger alts idle ouput isn't changed then go for it. Although anything over 250 is crazy IMO. The whole point of going to the CS144 is that it puts out 100ish amps at idle. Unlike a stock one or rewound HO stock alt.

This is much more important to me then over all output as you want the truck to be able to recover the batteries while your re adjusting your winch lines with all your lights on in the dark haha

    trust me..:anonymous:

Lol thanks man I had to move your post to this thread so it wouldn't get buried in 280 pages and hard to find lol I have a 370a mechman in my 04 Sierra and I have ran 2kw at full tilt with one xs d3400 battery and my voltage doesn't dip below 14.4

I also got the plug from the electric motor place I tested it at... And they told me how to take the face off so I can rotate the plug/ positive post configuration to match stock location.....

Oh and the kicker I picked it up for only 200$

Lol shit just popped up on Facebook one day guy found it in a car he bought... Lol... The adjusting mount side is threaded so I will have to drill it out... It's also slightly thicker on that side as well and I will need a larger spacer on the block side of the mounting bracket... Already found nice spacers at menards just need to figure out a bolt size and how big of a spacer I need
