Large piece of metal found in my rear differential...I'm a bit pissed at Toyota's quality

Hey everyone... So some off you know, I had an issue with Toyota having 6 washers on my oil drain plug and I noticed it when I did my first oil change. (found here). I really didn't care because there was no harm done. I feel this is different.

First off, I should have listened to you guys and not Toyota, because doing the rear diff oil change that Toyota recommends, is FAR too long.

Anyway here's my story: I'm headed on a big trip and I'm almost hitting 19,000 kms and wanted to do the rear diff change. First the smell was too much.... just smelt like burnt oil. Then when I too out the plug and found this huge piece of metal, I absolutely lost it.

I called Toyota Canada but they were closed but I'm calling when I get back from my trip.

Do you think I'm over reacting here?

    Normal, nothing to worry about.
Really, I’m not joking. It’s normal.

Refill with fluid and forget about it.
    It’s fine.

Wow. I don’t think you are overreacting. I wouldn’t want that in my differential. I changed my differential oil at 4,000 and plan on doing it at least every 20,000 mile intervals.

You're overreacting and not the first to find that chip.

I wouldn’t care if I was the 1,000th to get that chip- plug actually. I’d be concerned and likely a bit pissed.

Do you have a locking diff ? Trying to imagine where this would have come from. What did the fluid look like i.e. dark and lots of glitter ? Did my rear diff at 28k and was pretty clear. The front diff didn't look the best. I don't pay any attention to the recommend first service schedules because I feel these are the most important of all. You have all the assembly and break in shit you want to get out. Unless this is something from the locker it's hard to tell what it come from as far as ring/pinion or spider gears.

It’s just a shaving from the axle housing that wasn’t blown out. It hasn’t been ran thru the gears, obviously, and has been stuck to the plug since it got the 3rd & gear oil.

It's left from machining on the housing during manufacture.

thanks to everyone that res[ponded, I'm feeling much better knowing this is kind of "common" ....yet I feel disturbed at the same time. Why is this not being addressed by Toyota? Why are these "allowed" to pass knowing there are small metal pieces from the manufacturing process.

I'm not wanting anything covered, everything is running great and like I said in my previous post, I love my Toyota...but I think Toyota should at least give me a response on why they think this is acceptable QC.
