What is the ~MPG calculation on that 350 miles of range? Still having a hard time getting info on the MPGs of the hybrids. Of course the Pro will be a little worse with the lift and wheel/tire set up.

All “city” driving but it’s rural so 40-45mph. Some stop lights every 1/4mi and some 1mi apart. Easy to get 22-23mpg but my driving hits a sweet spot for the hybrid.

Post fill-up range meter displays around 330mi. I consistently measure 22-23mpg at the pump around town, which is outstanding relative to any other Tacoma I’ve driven. That’s a win, and so my “real” range is actually quite fine.

However…I usually refuel with about 20miles remaining indicated and a low-fuel reminder, yet never fit much more than 15 gallons back in. So my gripe (and probably most drivers) is/should be with the overcautious meter which was apparently programmed to believe that the fuel tank size is a couple gallons less than reality, and not necessarily the overall tank capacity.

Reserve (when the DTE shows 0) is 2.7 gallons so you have 15.5 gallons "working" capacity. 350/15.5 = 22.6 mpg.
I'm pretty conservative but I ran mine down to 14mi DTE once just to see (had a 5-gallon gas can in the back) and it took 15.2 gallons to fill up.

So far I’ve never gotten better than 285 DTE with a full tank and have not yet been able to hit 20 MPGs combined. Only about 1800 miles but still. Maybe I rest the learning feature on the throttle to factory new?

I'm going to be towing in the mountains and I'm expecting somewhere in the 12-14MPG range (will update after this weekend's 1st trip) and that means I'll need to fuel up after like 180-200 miles which sucks.

Look at the fuel tank size/shape. It's flat and long, not tall.

So with a couple gallons left, you have an shallow layer of fuel in the bottom of the tank.

What happens to that fuel when you're on an incline?

Right, there’s some serious fuel tank origami going on underneath, including a filler neck that’s now routed all the way back across the vehicle.

My own calculations may assure me that I still have a couple gallons swirling around, but if the dash says <10mi remaining, I’m not going to risk it. For local travel, that’s a bi-weekly annoyance, but for those who regularly travel highway or long distances (especially off road), it’s a bigger issue in need of a solution.

Yeah, just illustrating why folks can't expect to get the complete 18.2gal out of the tank.

I don't yet have a 4th gen and may wait to see what (if any) changes there are for 2026.

Speaking from my experience with my 3rd gen, I average about 18.1 mpg and typically fill up between 280-330mi based on my Fuelly data. Driving is a couple 100-mile freeway trips, a bit of rural two lane 10-15 mile trips, and then some shorter distance city suburban driving. Given the info from Fuelly for 2017 vs 2024 or 2025 it seems I'd likely see similar range even if slightly less when I do move to a 4th gen. I rarely tow and just for short distances when I do.

Fuelly data does seem to indicate the Trailhunter gets notably worse mileage in general than say the OffRoad, though there could be several reasons for that.

This is very sad. Oh well. I mean the thing is marketed at 22/24 mpg and that seems like serious fantasyland until I look at the non-hyrids getting close or equal to that.

    :annoyed:
