I'm certainly no expert, any circumstance (rollover) that could spill on driver and ignite

As an engineer I wouldn't go that far anyway

I wouldn’t use anything other than an approved fuel tank, they’re baffled and vented to ensure they’re safe/function properly.

With the research I’ve done, some people had issues filling tanks or getting them to transfer if they weren’t properly vented.

I want to use the F-150 tank in the spare tire spot, biggest issue for me is the filler neck location. I don’t want one in the deck of the bed since it’s pretty much intended to be a clean space inside a camper, and clearance is tight in the bed sides to add a location behind the driver rear wheel well, and as much as it wouldn’t seem possible, I want it to look clean/factory.

The dual tank 80 series had a double filler neck with a pull valve to switch tanks. It’d be cool to make this work but it’s as DRR mentioned, parts are very hard to find and/or expensive and often have to be sourced outside the US.
    IMG_3709.png
The other option, and hopefully the one that would work is a directional double fill neck that’s basically a Y, parts seem easier to source and it’d be much simplified.

I wonder if we got enough people together long range America would be willing to make one for the 1st gen. May be worth the high price for some to just have a bolt on option.

Could look into marine gas tanks for boats to see if something fits but why not just throw a couple jerry’s in the bed?

Just asked long range America why they dont have a tank for the first gen and how many they would need to sell to make it worth it, and was basically told to pound sand.

That’s awesome, great idea on the filler location, could even create a moveable flap to cover it- it’s so mucky in western WA, want some way to keep it a bit protected

I use the stock fuel pump that was in the donor tank to pump fuel to the stock OEM tank. I connected the 5/8 vent hoses from both tanks together so no venting problems while transfering fuel. It has a gauge sender but I have no fuel gauge for rear tank. The filler neck and the skid plate are all from the same donor vehicle.

One evening while patrolling when I used to work as a park ranger, I drove up to a wrecked pickup that had just rolled off the road and ended upside down. It didn’t have a bed and was tilted with the tail up and pointed downwards towards the hood. Gasoline was spilling out from the upside down fuel tank into the cab through the busted out back window and was showering all over the driver. He was soaked with gasoline when he crawled out and was drunk as hell. He’s lucky he didn’t get lit up.:bananadead::goingcrazy:

Whatever tank you put in your truck, make damn sure it’s a good one!

Damb that is scary. Based on that and cost it sounds like pulling a un drilled one from a junk yard might be a good option. Includes pump, is safety rated and would be cheaper
