Largest tire size to not rub OEM mudflaps? (Stock suspension and wheels)

Been doing some reading and found that a 265/75r16 or a 255/85r16 is the biggest I can go before getting into the trim/CMC territory. However, Does anyone know if either or both of these sizes will rub the front OEM mudflaps?

And if anything can be done to "trim" them so the tires don't rub? Most people just suggest taking them off as it's the easiest solution but perhaps not the best.

I'm on stock '21 OR suspension and rims (I believe +25mm backspacing)

PS I know I'm gonna get some flak from y'all for running the OEM mudflaps. You can save me from "a trail is gonna take them off", "not a real truck", etc. Had a no flap Taco before this and wasn't a fan of the dents from road stones flying up at highway speeds (one good thing about the current used market is I was able to even swap to a new one). Bought some OEM flaps and now all I hear is stones hitting plastic;) I also take them off temporarily when I hit a more technical trail

Search bar is your friend but you'll be fine with either size. 255/85/16 has pretty limited options though. Also rekgen mudflaps bend and move way better than oem.

Either size won’t rub the OEM flap or?

Also looking at these rekgens but reviews are saying they’re pretty rigid… https://www.amazon.com/Rek-Gen-Compatible-Toyota-Tacoma/dp/B079S5PZMK?crid=2X17HQB0ISDWG&keywords=rek+gen+mud+flaps+tacoma&qid=1575347559&sprefix=rek+gen+mud+flaps%2Caps%2C212&sr=8-4&language=en_US

Not exactly what your set up will be but perhaps my experience is close enough…..

One of the first mods I did (literally within the first fuel tank of purchase) was 17” TRD wheels with Michelin 265/70/17 all terrain tires. The diameter was just under 32” and the wheels were 4mm offset (pretty sure). With stock 4x4 OR suspension and the oem mudguards it did barelyyyyy rub during certain situations - driving down our 7 story parking garage and turning the wheel at full lock at slow speeds with slight suspension compression. It was barely noticeable but I did notice a 1” or so on the back of the front mudguards after a week or so. Others may not have ever noticed it was so small.

I did the TRD Lift Kit (2” front, 1” rear) a couple of weeks later and have zero rubbing now. :)

I wish Duratracs A/T came in a 255/80 or 85/16 size. I really don't want to rock a Mud Terrain E load tire on my Taco.

I run Falken Wildpeak AT3W 265/75/R16 on my TRD Sport with no rubbing but I did remove my front flaps only because I'm in Canada and didn't want issues with snow compacting against them and ripping them off in the winter. I've kept my back flaps on to protect my exhaust tip :canada:

Thanks! would you happen to know if the RG flaps would be ok with tires that would definitely rub on them? Say a wide 285 33 if I decided to go that route

I don't see the point of replacing mud flaps "In case" they get ripped off, Off Roading. If they do, then replace them, if not why bother?????

Yeah they should work with that but at 285 its going to depend on what lift you have with it.
