I just put a deposit down for a 2021 TRD OR DCSB Manual transmission. Can anyone comment on the drivability of the latest OEM ECU flash for the Tacoma -- for a manual! Are there still good reasons to go for an aftermarket ECU flash for a manual?

All I know is that I love mine as it came from the factory.

I’m not completely impressed with the shifting. I feel the truck rushes to run through the gears. Here is what I mean.

leave a stop light at a set throttle truck pulls away just fine and keeps up with the flow. As best as I can calculate, by counting shifts, that it does fine until it gets to fourth and falls out of the power band. Suddenly the same amount of throttle is no longer enough. At this point I no longer keep up with the flow and I have to add some throttle which results in a downshift. I just feel Toyota could improve that still. My 09 TRD sport did not do this.

That’s why I am looking to a tune after 5k. Still only have 2500 miles on it. Sorry I know my complaint is on an auto.

For the most part, there hasn't been much change for manuals. Honestly, the truck drives "fine" stock, for the most part. If you need more power in the stock tune, you gotta get up in the 3.5k+ rpms to get some power out of her. I was happy with it -- until I got tuned. Once I did, I couldn't imagine going back to stock.

Again, nothing wrong with stock. There is just that much more waiting for you with a tune. So do you take the red or the blue pill...?
