I just got my new SD card from parts.toyota.com and it is for April 2020. Is that really the newest map available?

I don’t have the answer for your question but may I ask how much you paid for it?

Waze is online requiring internet access. Are the others integrated to factory head unit? I have no need for extra junk plugged in and messing up the cab just to get a small improvement in an application.

Yes, and I use it *WHEN* there is internet access. It's also on my phone, which is not connected to the truck, so I now have a second piece of equipment cluttering up space, trying to balance it so it can be seen without being an unsafe driving situation. And again - it's call "no cell signal so that crap doesn't work". It's also why we have these big printed books called a "road atlas".

I got it for $45. Including free shipping. Ordered it on Thursday; showed up Saturday.

I'm with you on this one. People talk about waze, alexa, and other apps but you need to connect your phone for that, and that takes up data! I still say that a phone is a phone, although I have modified that a little by using the camera features from time to time. I do wish that Garmin would come up with some way that we could install garmin on the OEM head unit and use garmin, as it is much better than what comes in the OEM units.

I really like the waze since it will re-route you in case there is an accident and it also lets you know that there are police in the area. Speed traps and such not that I drive too fast but it’s good to know. Since it is crowd sourced data it’s fairly reliable.

Amen. It's too bad these OEM shops don't just say "hey, why should we be in the GPS & map business - let's get a major player to handle that and integrate it."

Yeah, I use waze for my local drives - even my daily work commute for that very reason. But on long trips into the boonies where there is zero cell reception for days on end, I do find the built-in map system is reasonably reliable. Sure, it may take a few interesting turns at times, but it does help me find those "unimproved roads" along the route!

I get what you’re saying. I work in the gas and oil fields in WV-PA areas and cell service is rare at time and a good old Garmin comes in handy. When I started we had paper maps and you found a wide spot and pulled over to try to find yourself.

Not true. You need phone connection only. Considering there are cell towers everywhere these days you're pretty much covered for pavement. Off Road you can download maps. You don't need the Internet. The Internet is evil.
