I recently installed a new rear U-joint because of a lot of vibration...it had failed. That was 2 months ago on that repair. Within the last few days I have had this slow shaking in my gear shift at low speed. Specifically when I am 10mph or less pulling into a parking lot. I have my hand on my gear shift(standard trans) and it will slowly shake my arm, not violently, but a good shake. It does the same thing in first and second gear if I just let the truck crawl along without acceleration. What the heck is this?!

might need to have a reputable shop check driveshaft balance and phase

new u-joint because of a lot of vibration ?

is driveshaft and all components in phase today ? if you cannot answer this, maybe answering this will reveal the vibe issue

or the old joint was eating this slop, and with a new joint the vibe has now transferred to the tranny and this
is where the vibration is expressing itself, now that it cannot do it in the joints (till they slop out again over time)

get it up on a lift and do a full prop shaft balance and phase and slop go-over

Maybe a busted or worn engine mount that's transferring thru to the transmission. The trans also has a mount but it's pretty stout and I've never heard of anyone replacing theirs. My shifter will shake if I bog the engine real bad but it shouldn't happen during normal driving.

Is there a way that I could check this myself? After I put the drive shaft back on after replacing the U-joint at the carrier bearing bolts, I had use a magic marker to mark where the bolts needed to be exactly as it was before I took it off and while re-installing they didn't want to line up perfectly even though I had the drive shaft installed back on the truck. So I removed it from rear diff and moved the drive shaft back and forth to get the carrier bolts lined up just as they were according to my magic marker markings. When I went to install the drive shaft on rear diff I had to push the drive shaft back towards the cab and push up at same time to get on the rear diff and line the bolt holes up.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
While laying under the truck can you move the drive shaft by hand?

Sounds to me like you might be lugging the engine.

Also: shouldn't rest your hand on a manual trans (just assuming it's manual...)

do a search on how it's done. not just tacoworld, there are a few good articles on this

primary problem is lift the truck so you
can do it correctly and have room and also be able to unload wheels

When I was under there last night, it will rotate side to side just a tad.
Why is that? I have never heard this before. So your telling me you don't hold the stick?

Ok I understand why now, but I doubt very seriously that the small amount of pressure if any has caused my truck to vibrate all of the sudden

That wouldn't cause it to vibrate, but like explained in the video, it's good practice not to use the gear shift as a hand rest. That's all Denny was pointing out.

Back to the problem. Do you have any lift at all? Beefed up rear springs? Anything that might have changed the angles on the driveshaft?

I found a shop in Dallas, Drive Shaft King. They said they will look at it for no charge.

Well. I will at least get it fixed or rule it out one of the two.
