I have had both 4x4's (4Runner and 1st Generation Tacoma) and now a PreRunner. I purchased the 4x4's when we lived in California and would regularly drive up to the mountains to ski/snowboard. After moving to South Carolina nearly eight years ago, I can honestly count on one hand how many times I put my truck in 4wd. Truth be told, when I bought my 2010 PreRunner, I really wanted another 4x4. But, knowing that I wasn't likely to use it, I couldn't justify (or convince my wife it was necessary) the added expense. Going offroad is fun as hell, no doubt, but if you aren't going to use it, why pay for it?

So to my 4x4 owning friends.....yes I am abit jealous. But as you get older you learn to better prioritize your choices between needs and wants. If we move to a place that has snow on the ground for many months out of the year I will buy a 4x4 Toyota again. In the meantime, I'm not going to worry about other people laughing at my 4x2 truck.

If anyone here should be laughed it, it should be me! :D

2009 Base model 4 Cylinder Tacoma SR5 with a 3 inch lift, 16 inch tires wrapped in A/T and a muffler. Seriously??? If you think I did it to go hit some monster off road (which is generally mud around here) you are clearly wrong! LOL! I did it for looks which I achieved and made a truck I'm very very happy with. Your boy can laugh all he wants!

However, due to unforeseen circumstances (buying an offshore boat), I'll be tradin in for a Tundra which I'll get the 4x4.

Well, if you don't need or want a 4X4, why spend the money? I didn't need a 4X4, so I chose to save some money. Frankly I don't care what others think of my ride.

DUDE!!!! ive been pulled out so many times by my friend with a 87 chevy on 35's But vise versa- ive pulled him out many times too. Its all about how you drive, he has a v-8 and stomps my ass in the heavy stuff and steep hills....and no just cause it says perunner doesnt make it better than any other truck......an 80 k1500 will absolutely murder a pre-runner offroad. havin 4x4 makes a helluva difference. sorry bro

    Success! We converted him!

But, in seriousness, that 5 lugger looked fucking awesome. It had never occurred to me to look at window tinting until I saw how awesome yours looked matched to the access cab windows.

You may notice that the week after the SC meet I had my fronts matched to my privacy glass? Hmm. Wonder where I got that idea?

When someone says or asks about why or what when it comes to my truck I just ask if they want to make some payments on it then they may share their opinion but til then ill make my own decisions on it. But for what it's worth I like having a 4x4 its not for everyday A to B but when your miles out to Z and the rear isn't pushing so much

I get crap from my friends all the time because I drive a Toyota... People dont realize what my truck can actually do for its size and for what it has to offer. I'm sure, once I put in a Locking diff I can show alot of people how its done.

an awesome friend of mine was so surprised when I hit this mudhole without hesitation. I didnt get far, but he wouldnt think i would get far. It awesome to prove so one wrong.

Buddies Tahoe: Its awesome having a safety net with a friend that has 4x4.

[IMG]What I cant stand the most is when people talk crap about taking your truck offroad when they dont even know how to drive on a gravel or dirt driveway or road.

I've got a PreRunner TRD Off Road and I know damn sure that some guys crack jokes about it. Hell, most of them are 4x2, but you can't tell because they all drive domestics and Toyota's are the only truck manufacturer that is proud enough of their trucks to claim that it is a 4x2.

In all seriousness, Everyone that has 4x4, is in 2WD 90%-95% of the time they have their truck... I doubt anymore drives around the city with their 4WD engaged... If you do you better stop unless you wanna pay for new CV boots and new CV axles..
