Dogs aren't people. They're nowhere near the same level, and people who try to make dogs (and other animals, PETA) on the same level as people are idiots.

EDIT: I just noticed that my post count as of this post is 1,982... same as my birth year and extension number at work!

if you plan on putting that many people in your truck during spring break you better plan on being sober.

OK, everything "legal" is right and appropriate. If you do it because it's "Legal", then you don't think for yourself. This is an issue that involves common sense and the fact that thousands have died falling out of truck beds.......

No, dogs aren't on the same level. But that doesn't give people the *RIGHT* to abuse them. If a dog is in the truck bed, they're just walking around back there. They aren't smart enough to *read* traffic and know when to brace themselves or even HOLD ON.

Everytime I see a dog in the bed of a pickup while moving really makes me CRINGE.

One wrong move while in traffic, one brake push, one lane change ...can be fatal and that dog can easily pop out of the truck bed and into the street.

How'd you like to be the car who hits the dog when it lands on the roadway?

So, in a sense.....its even WORSE than having people in the bed!!

Truck people not wanting things in the beds of their trucks is odd. I put anything that will fit safely in there. My dogs are chained down, my people are drunk hopefully so they won't get hurt when they fall out. Not really, Most that I know don't ride on the streets with people in tow, and when we do its at the parade under 5mph if your lucky you can make 5.

I don't have any issue's with people riding in the back of trucks as long as whoever driving is being responsible with it. I grew up riding in the back of trucks on the east coast. It also comes in handy when i go to AZ to visit friends and we go camping, we can all hop in the back of the pickup with our rafts / coolers and drive down the dirt roads to the lake. We've never had any accidents nor do I personally know anyone that has.

IMO... its not really a matter of not wanting to put things in my bed its i just don't think you should put live animals in without a tied down cage (minimum)

people... sure... its your choice, you have a better sense of whats going on, you could potentially bail/brace yourself if you need to... but in the end its an informed choice that one makes to ride in the bed (fun but there is a definite risk taken... i've done it lots of times)

very different from sticking an animal back there that has no way of knowing when to brace itself and in the event of any sort of incident, is at a very high risk of injury (and for anyone that thinks its just as high if they were in the cab save the time of posting and i'll just call you a dumbass now :D)... regardless of whether its tied to the bed or not

In town the speed it 25 and that is my max speed for riding my girl in the truck. She is chained to make sure she doesn't jump out, she's nuts. Not to mention I don't like her resting her feet over the side of the bed, so she gets a short chain. I don't see that riding in the bed is any worse than riding a bike. If you wreck with a dog in the back I bet he comes out better than you.

If it's legal that means you CAN do it. Doesn't mean you HAVE to. Bottom line is if you are going to put a living person or animal in the bed you need to use common sense and be responsible. That's end of story.

If the law says it must be a tailgate that is up you could probably get a ticket thats the kid of thing that would be at the discretion of the officer

Yeah its kind of dangerous but has no one else ridden in the back of a truck as a kid? I know I did many times. Its a personal choice everyone knows the risk its up to them to decide if they want to do it or not.

If you are in a parade and the speed limit is SLOW, go for it. On your own property, probably ok. But on regular roads, I have to agree it's stupid and idiotic to ride in the back of a truck- my .02.

Didn't someone on here recently lose a friend who fell out of the back of a truck?
