For you guys that have gone from either a full sized truck or LB Taco to SB Taco do you regret going with the SB very often??

I don't work out of the truck, just run up and down the roads and use it hunting and fishing when it gets "used".

I am still not sold on the newer auto and am wanting the SC, problem is they don't offer the manual in LB so if I want a manual I have to go SB.

Going to be a change after driving nothing but FS pick ups for the last 26 years.

You can get an sr or TRD sport access cab with a manual, all access cabs have the longer 6ft bed. The access cab is the next option since no more single cab is made. The double cab has the option for manual, but only in short bed. Hope this helps.

I've only ever had a short bed, but never needed a longer bed. There have been times when the long bed would have been nice, but never needed it. Truck has been used to haul 1-3 dirtbikes at a time, 1 sport bike, refrigerator, couches, boxes, tables... If something was too long it just hangs off the back and is strapped in with a red rag or flag off the back.

I'm in this exact situation now. Going from a full size truck to a Tacoma, I want a LB.
But I really want manual transmission.

Getting an access cab is a possibility, but I'd rather a double cab.

Hey Toyota, just let me special order a goddamn long bed with manual. :frusty:

I went to a short bed just because i do not like the way the long bed looks! the problems i have with the short bed is that my kayak wont fit no more without support! also they bicycle do not lay flat without twisting the arm! my solution was to buy a t-bone bed extender and a hitch bike rack! bugs me a little but not a big deal.

I was in this same situation, I wanted a manual ORAC, I ended up having to order a ORDC and hope I can deal with the SB, guess I will be putting a roof rack on and buying a bed extender.

I went from full size 3/4t trucks to the Tacoma LB w/bed extender. I know its not your question but Im not sure how guys have SB in these trucks. You definitely should have a small trailer if you want to use the SB for anything other than hauling groceries and beer.

I think the LB versions look better/more proportional in any configuration.

I have a DCSB which I bought because I live in a city and thought I would struggle to park it. That has been a complete non-issue. I can count on one hand the number of times I think a LB would have prevented me from parking where I wanted.

I dont regret not getting a LB, but if I could go back and do it again (I wouldn't buy a tacoma, but I digress) I would have gotten the LB. Been camping and hauling stuff for a group of guys and that extra bed space would have been a huge help. I also would like to get a cap I think, but I can justify a cap on a short bed. I couldn't even lay back there with the tailgate shut.

went from a 2nd gen long bed to a 3rd gen short bed and I'm so much happier.
if you're in a rural area, or you need a LB for payload or work, then by all means go for it.
but if you don't really need it, and you live in a metro area, where you are hittin Costco or trader joes on a sunday, or have to parallel park that thing regularly, you will have a better quality of life with a shortbed. the turning radius is pretty bad, and it can be a nightmare in tight spots.

I literally got stuck in a shopping center parking lot one time that had narrow isles. soccer mom central, came back to mini vans on each side of me, and a suburban directly behind me. dead in the water. had to sit there for like 20 min and wait for one of them to leave.

I've been driving heavy full-size trucks my entire life and parking the LB isn't a big deal at all. I guess it comes down to what you are used too. I do agree about getting a vehicle that fits your needs. And buy a small trailer.

don't think i could have settled with the SB. as someone said above, the LB just looks more proportionate to me. i hunt and fish too and when i do go, i bring a lot of people so the extra space helps.

:deadhorse:Long bed looks funny. Short bed will allow you to carry anything in it you can carry with a long bed, just drop the tailgate and use tailgate extender. Short bed has shorter wheel base and is more capable off road. Long bed can get high centered easier. Short bed also more practical for in-town use for parking and maneuvering.

I went from a pseudo-full size (T100 XtraCab with 6.5' bed) and find the DCSB bed to be noticeably, sometimes, annoyingly, shorter and narrower. Compared to a LB Taco with 6' bed and less than 48" between wheelwells it may be less of an issue. On the other hand, I really can't imagine driving a longer rig, even just 12" more length and wheelbase, on trails or in town. So I make it work. And the full back seat vs AccessCab is really nice, whether for passengers or for dry, secure, accessible (i.e. road snacks) storage.

Parking the LB anywhere is a non issue. Pretty sure the OAL is shorter than my Silverado extended cab SB and have never been anywhere I couldn't park it.

Its more an issue of hauling even though 90% of the time the truck is just running up n down the road.

Just wanted the 4dr LB and manual but may just get the auto/LB n move on.

There are situations where longer wheel base is more ideal for wheeling.

I do agree that they potentially get high centered easier but a lift and tires solve that.

    Like what situations?

You would require a larger lift and tires on a LB to cross the same obstacle that you would in a SB with smaller lift and tires.

Go with the long bed. I use mine for hunting and fishing. Couldn't imagine life with the short bed. I was also torn between going manual and long bed, ended up with the long bed and have no regrets.
