Hill climbs or any situation where end over end stability is desired.

And your second statement is true but my point is that the longer wheelbase high centering is mitigatable with more clearance.

Also the difference in wheel base between the LB and SB is minor when considering jeeps and four door long bed full size pickups are out there wheeling too.

I had a full-size truck and downsized to the Tacoma and I don't miss the fullsize. It all depends on what you need though. I don't need the bed all that much so the SB was a no brainer.

Had a long bed for a little over a week........I felt like I was driving a limo, horrible turning radius, backing out of spots was a pain and whenever I made a right hand turn I had trouble judging the length and would hop the curb. If I had a business where I used the long bed for work I would have dealt with it but now I am so glad I have the short bed. It fits MY needs keyword MY. Just my .02.

Actually, SB looks funny and will never haul more than a LB since, well, a LB is longer. I'm certain that both the SB and LB have the same approach angles. Parking and maneuvering a Tacoma LB isn't hard or less practical unless you are a soccer dad.

Looks are opinion. SB can haul as much as a LB with a bed extender AND if you really need to haul that much more, you should consider a full size. Parking is easier with a SB. LB will get high centered before a SB will.

You seem stuck on this. Is this the only criteria for making something a better wheeler? Cause Jeep, maybe?

I had the same debate about 1.5 years ago when I ordered mine. Went with the DCLB. I do a lot of fishing and do not want my poles bending in the bed or hanging out the end. A 6'6" pole fits nicely corner to corner and I can slide my 10' kayak in the bed with the tailgate up and strap it down easily. A SB would have caused me more issues with my poles and 10' kayak. The manual would have been awesome, but I would have made a bigger sacrifice on my hauling with a SB than a manual would have had on my driving comfort/preference.

Yes, a SB may fit a similar amount if gear in the bed with an extender as a LB, but you could always add an extender to a LB. Plus, an extender has the holes in it that stuff could slide through whereas the closed tailgate on a LB would not. There's no question each has its merits. LB for more capacity (not payload, only cubic feet) and SB for manueverability. I'm probably missing something but that seems to be major difference.

I went from short bed to long bed. Even the so called "long bed" Tacoma is pretty short for many situations. I will never go back to the 5' box.

Couldn't do a SB. AC with the 6MT is the way to go, unless you have kids.

Had a SB for 12 years and always wished I had more room, since owning a LB I never thought I had too much.

Longer wheelbase is more comfortable on the road and more stable when towing.

As for hauling and you have the tailgate down for your oversized stuff, the backup camera is useless when backing. Side view mirrors help but they don't show you everything. Easier to crunch the top of your tailgate if you back into some short pole or barrier if it's in the middle of where you're backing into. I'd be more prone to this than any of Smitty99's high centering fears.

    I'll never own another SB.

I have an LB, bed extender and a trailer. And no you don't need a full-sized truck to use a Tacoma as a truck was intended. Just need something besides a SB anything.

When I had the SB it was toolbox in OR bikes in and when the bikes were loaded the tailgate was always down.

Not anymore, everything's in AND the tailgate is up.20160724_094535.jpg

Tailgate up or down makes no difference if you have the bed extender :D

Haul a couple yards of mulch or dirt, makes a big difference.

I just traded my DCLB auto for a DCSB manual. I don't care if I had to go to a 2 foot box to get away from that transmission, I would have. If you need the longer box and a double cab I suggest buying another brand.

If I'm hauling heavy shit like that I'd use a full size. This truck isn't equipped to haul 1000's of lbs of shit in the bed. I've already hauled 1 ton of dirt in the bed, it fit fine but I was well over the payload capacity and riding on bumpstops. I had to take very slow side streets.

Point of the matter just because you have a 20 gallon bucket doesn't mean you can fit 25 gallons of shit in it, safely.
