It’s only bad if it has play.

Just add grease using a grease gun and needle attachment at every oil change.
Also check for play every oil change for peace of mind. I had a (stock)UCA ball joint start leaking about 10,000 miles ago. I add grease and check the tire for play every so often. It’s still good currently.

A few mods here and there and counting....
Maybe time to replace. Toyota doesn’t sell the lower ball joint separately as you have to purchase the entire lower control arm to acquire it. There are aftermarket options, but none has been able to live up to OEM standards to my knowledge.

I bought it used and have a warranty that’s up in 2k miles. I’m gonna see if they will replace them. There aren’t any weird sounds, yet.

That’s good if they are normal. I just didn’t know if it was normal for grease to be seeping out of them.

Yeah given the age its normal to see some seepage. When the boot is all mangled and the grease has a lot of dirt in it is when Id be looking at replacing. Also youll feel play in the tire when you have it jacked up.

Good to know as well. I panicked and picked up a set of used LCAs with the intent of rebuilding it. (Whiteline bushings and Proforged lower balljoints)

My lower ball joints looks exactly like OP’s. No play, just minor seepage.
