Well, I've fried my LCA bushings wheeling and its time to do something. Been searching for quite a while and can't find a definitive answer on whether or not Energy Suspension (or any other urethane brand for that matter) fit on the 3rd gen. I'm assuming there's no reason I can't use the 2nd gen part, but has anyone personally confirmed this yet?

And for the sake of argument, am I better off staying with a factory style bushing and just replace the whole LCA?

I drive this vehicle pretty rough, and quite often very far. it has 44K miles on it now. At this rate, I'd be replacing LCA's every year.

No experience on bushings but I was planning on switching to stock length aftermarket lower arms when it was time. If you wheel that hard you should switch over as well.

There was a video floating around on the stability difference on oem vs replacement and there was a ton of wobble on stock.

Your better off with aftermarket, especially wheeling the truck.
I’d consider the whiteline bushing the best. Then energy suspension.

I'd love to try Whiteline, but I can't find a part number for the 3rd gen Tacoma. Their website doesn't even list Tacoma at all, in fact. Energy Suspension at least lists Tacoma, but they say it fits 05-13.

Roughly 10,000 of those are on dirt, gravel, or rock. I have a 1 mile commute, all those miles are from going places and wheeling the truck. So frankly, I'm over here asking myself how have I not managed to do more serious damage!

Thanks, I was just about to look that up. I noticed Total Chaos makes a differentiation between 2G and 3G on their parts, but I can't spot the difference.. They also have similar part numbers. Whatever it is, it is subtle. My next move is to stop by the dealership, get both parts brought to the counter, and measure them. I'll comeback with results. In the meantime, if some other unfortunate soul has already beat me to the answer, I would be eternally grateful!

I find it odd as well. Seems like bad luck. My commute is 3 miles and have probably about 20k on just dirt, gravel or rock since the truck is used pretty much exclusively for recreation.

Personally if this happens to me I’d probably just sick with OEM

Actually, I think @YamaDirtrider might have it right with part #53312 since it has different front/rear sizes. But they are a millimeter different than your measurements.

Here's some more clues.. Moog seems to think their 2nd gen part fits 3rd gen, at least for the rear part. Maybe the front is different between 2wd and 4wd? They don't show a front position bushing for 4wd.

Alrighy, I'm taking a gamble on the Whitelines 53312. Also bought a set of 4865404050 Toyota front bushings because I think that is where the difference is. If I end up being able to run the Whitelines' rear position and Toyota front position, that will at least be a little better than stock. Wish me luck!

Pulled the arms out today. Whiteline 2nd gen parts are same width, but 3rd gen diameter is larger by 2mm. No go! Put new genuine Toyota bushings in front position, but waiting for the rears which are on back order! Eek. But yeah.. CONFIRMED: Both bushings are bigger on the 3rd gen. No aftermarket options whatsoever. Genuine Toyota parts hard to come by. Much pain!
