So it has 4 stops for compression?
Well I thought I was helping but sounds like I may have led astray.

Yeah, it has a front and back bumpstop for each wheel. The top-out is (I believe) the shock. OP has an 02, which should be the same, but not 100% sure.

Yip only bottom bumps for our trucks. Also now that i look at that pic closer its somewhat obvious it's not a tacoma. I didnt notice that at first though.

Alright then, well I'll double check, but when it was on the lift I had no problem with the spring at full droop

couple things. mainly, jbrandt has a really good point my alignment tech buddy mentioned to me which could be 1 fix for the situation. youll probably need new LCA bushings or a new arm. when you do get new ones, the alignment tech will basically reset the lower arms at a new clock position on the initial alignment. this will fix that issue.

as far as figuring out what you can do to fix the top bumper issue, you MIGHT be able to find an extended spindle for the lift you have. this will tilt the upper control arm back up to original height and prevent premature bumping and/or prevent any spring plucking.

doing one or both of these *fixes* should completely fix your situation. there is also the option of finding a crossmember that will drop the position of the lower control arms on the chassis down a few inches and give you more clearance. but at that point youre buying a whole new lift kit.

just some things to think about.

Currently looking into UCA's, which I believe should fix the plucking

I don't really like the look of those lower crossmembers. Doing the lift for the clearance and that kind of kills it.

Limit straps should help with your issue.

The top bump stops under the UCA dont exist on our trucks.

late to the party but yeah, no upper interference for the Tacoma, only lower bumpstops on the LCA to prevent suspension travel up into the wheel well.

with the "lift" you've eliminated the lower bumpstops from the equation and now rely on your shock to bottom out if you compress too much

double check your sway bar as with the amount of lift you added you "rocked" the sway bar most of the way forward and could be contacting under the crossmember or you're hearing the sway bar bushings stressing as one wheel tries to go beyond the now more limited travel distance. That's one of the reasons a lot of people remove the sway bar, but also to increase individual wheel travel (articulation).

I could be mistaken, but I don't think this is true.

With a spacer lift, yes, you could be relying on the shock to limit your compression travel because you moved the entire shock down, so if the wheel moves up enough that the shock is fully compressed before it hit the bump stops, you're in trouble.

But that's not the case with 5100's. All you're doing is extending the shock body when you apply the lift. Since the main shock body is still in the same place, (i.e. not moved down by a spacer), the wheel can still travel that far UP. As far as down travel, that is always limited by the shock, so I wouldn't be worried about that.

It's not from compressing. It's from extending. Funny enough, when someone is in my truck with me, this noise disappears. Like the weight helps?

could just be the sway bar knocking up and down on the links. a passenger would keep them more even with each other

I disconnected the sway bar links to confirm. Noise is still there.

only other thing i can think of is a bad ball joint that knocks to and fro when moving vertically.

It's possible. I'd hope not though. Toyota did the recall 35k miles ago.
