They move quite a bit. I replaced a couple of my bushings and it made no difference. If you notice, the outward facing portion of each bushing has a rubber lip. That's made to contact the frame under tension so it buffers the impact. Why it was made to move that much... beats me. Just an FYI before you go throwing money at it.

I'm saying that my bushings were moving a lot (like the way you described yours) and replacing them did not change how much the control arms moved forward and back. Just letting you know I think it's normal that they shift around somewhat.

Perhaps the problem is that the bushings are no longer pressed in. My bushings became loose in the control arm housing and clunked like crazy when I turned or hit the brakes hard. When i went to replace them, the bushings just fell right out (front ones only). Had to make some custom tack welds so they stayed in there. The arms still move forward and back but the clunk is gone.

From what we can tell its pretty normal, I looked at a few other trucks and they had the same movement so I have no idea what the clunk is. We torqued evrything but did not change bushings yet.. Still have the clunk

I'm thinking the bushings are supposed to have a little bit of play in them. You have me wondering so I'm gonna go check mine now lol:D

how do the bushings to the steering rack look? anybody touch the bolts to it, just to make sure they are tight. might as well check for play on the tie rods..both inner and outer. at this point anything is worth a shot to check or double check.

if you had the front wheels off the ground and if you turned the steering wheel back and forth would it still clunk?

Isn't that a rubber bushing? Or is it a urethane type? Rubber could move like that but the urethane shouldn't.

I get the clunk too, it's play in the bushings from being worn out. There is a DYI i think for replacing them. You need to press those bushings out and put new ones, in. Toyota saids you need to replace the whole LCA, but you can press out and in new bushings. Also check all moveable parts for anything loose.

I also notices that you should check the angles you have your LCA bolts set at. You can also be binding somewhere.
