    Yikes!!! Using a fiber cutoff wheel without a guard??? Hopefully you at least had on a full face shield because this is asking for a major injury.

    Do yourself a favor and get a good 4.5" grinder with an adjustable guard- on better grinders you can rotate the guard without any tools- takes seconds. They are much cheaper than a trip to the Emergency Room. Makita and Metabo both offer this and I'm sure many others.

    Also, consider a metal cutoff wheel like Lenox makes. This is all I use since I discovered them:
