My 03 Prerunner has a nasty squeak when going over bumps. I am replacing shocks currently, but have been told this may be a leaf spring bushing issue.

I've been told that these are extremely hard to replace on a 10+ year old truck - any advice here?

    Thanks!

Start soaking them in penetrating oil or WD-40. If the bushings are worn out it will help them come out easier. If they're in good shape but noisy, it will help that, too.

well I'm pretty sure the leaf springs are just like the control arm bushings. there is a metal bushing that is pressed in there that needs to be removed.. once its removed replacing the bushing is as simple as lubing the bushing then tightening a nut and a bolt pretty much. there are a few DIY methods i have seen but have not attempted. check out youtube. you don't have to look for a tacoma specific video all leafs are the same pretty much.

just get new leafs. you can pick up some nice Dorman leafs for a little over 100 bucks brand new!

Look at the bolt that goes through the bushing. if the bolt doesnt look like its in the middle of the bushing then your bushing is probably bad.
