OK, I had a broken leaf spring on the passenger side of my 1998 Extended Cab 4WD SR5 TRD.
I bought a pair of Dorman 929-401 springs and started the project today.
I'm not the best mechanic and I pulled a dumb arse move.
I put the outside of the shackle through mount on the frame and got the spring started then aligned the front of the spring and put a bolt through it and put the nut hand tight on it. Had a hell of a time getting the spring to line up on the perch, but it finally went in. I tightened up the U-bolts and went to tighten the back bolts on the shackle before tightening the front bolt and realized that I didn't put the second half of the inside bushing into the frame mount,......and the inside shackle doesn't line up either.

How do I get this aligned? Back up 5 and punt (start over)? Your help is greatly appreciated.

A picture or several might help...if the inside portion of the shackle isn't installed, you should have no problem inserting the inner bushing and sleeve into the frame mount. I would undo the u bolts and drop the axle until all the hardware and bushings for the leaf springs are installed properly, then reinstall the axle, set the truck on its own weight, and torque the leaf spring hardware to spec.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure your right. With everything in place and with the U bolts tightened, there's no hope of getting the shackle on or the inside pushing on the upper portion of the shackle to go in the frame mount without taking things apart.
The bolt going through the frame mount is sitting at a slight angle and the reason the bushing wont go in. It's kinda weird to me that the inside half of the shackle won't line up with the outside of the shackle connected up, but then again it's obviously on an angle......again the reason that the bushing won't go in the hole.

I was just hoping that if I raised the truck in the back or front or somewhere else that someone knew about, that the spring would level out, the bolt would be perpendicular to the hole and I could finish the job. I guess not possible with the U bolts tightened and the spring in the front connected (I did not tighten it, but there's little give there with the bolt in the hole).
