This doesn't compute. All leaf springs are made from similar grades of steel and painted.

I remember a local vendor for deavers wanted $400 to powder coat my leaf packs.

Not sure what is more ridiculous; this thread or wasting time and money powder coating leaf packs. Let alone leaf packs that see salt and snow.

I don't know how yours came but my Deaver springs have a nice thick coat of black paint on them. Seems sufficient to me. Got 'em straight from Deaver

Deaver, and most others, do not paint the individual leaves. They spray or dunk em'. Much remains uncoated. Even when disassembled, properly painted, and rust proofed there's just to many nooks and crannies where dirt, grit and salt gather, rub, and let corrosion start.

Plenty to be gained, if it works.

So what you're saying is that all leaf springs will rust out. This insane over-under shit will also rust out.

Three thicker leaves with small center spacers and thick wear pads at the tips are much easier to keep in good shape.

Its a wear item. It will wear out over time and you will need to replace it.

AKA, go try to claim a warranty on worn out leafs from 10+ years ago.

Just do whatever you're trying to do, and take pictures, so us on the Internet can talk about it.. :gossip::drunk:

    Stock-ish
Just do 63s if you're doing the work of making the Tundra leafs work. I have hardly any axle wrap with my setup.
    Currently running:
    3 Original Chevy leafs.
1 leaf cut down from a stock tacoma pack.
1 Chevy leaf cut down and added on top to act as an antiwrap leaf, retained by the stock clamps.
All in all technically a 5 leaf pack, but the Tacoma leaf and the anti wrap leaf are just there for extra support against wrap.
Chevy leafs are also 100x more common than Tundra leafs. You can find them on almost any Chevy in a junkyard, or can order new packs or $130 each and have them next day.

The examples in the pictures both put the overload into tension when it is loaded. Your desired configuration would put the overload into compression. I think this would cause the overload spring to buckle/bind up as it wouldn't have enough support.

I heavily considered 2nd gen Tundra or Chevy 63", but I want to keep the stock leaf spring geometry and shackle orientation/boat anchor. This truck is a bit of a do it all, and any heavier off-roading will best be done in my BJ73.

I'm exploring options to help support and spread the load on all leaves. The brackets will have to move smoothly whee they contact the main pack.

After reading through this thread and skimming your build thread, I guess my question is, why? What would this or the tundra leaf pack swap accomplish that an off-the-shelf solution that's proven to work not accomplish?

Trying something different... everything has been done and proven, until it hasn't. Will this win at Baja, or be the load carrying king, no... but maybe it will suck a little less at doing everything.

You should sit down and draw it before you build it. It might reveal why nobody does this. I’m fairly certain is because the geometry simply doesn’t work.
