Today I'm at the dealership, my 2017 Tacoma is leaking water under the rear window. I suspect it's the two air vents, they appear dry rotted and cracked. Hopefully it can be determined.
It's not covered under warranty, maybe I can seal around them myself if it's costly to replace?

Have them check the cab mounted brake light too, it’s known to leak,,,, if it hasn’t already been replaced.

I’ve heard of the rear vents leaking, but I have not heard whether it causes an issue.

I get moisture in my truck on a regular basis (e.g. rain through an open window, snow on my feet, wet bathing suit, spilt dog water dish, etc.) and it evaporates without causing any visible issues.

It's probably not an issue if you live somewhere where it doesn't rain a lot and it's not extremely hot and humid. After they removed the plastic cover and inspected it today, there was mold growth, a common problem here in the southeast

It rains plenty here in Minnesota (18-32” yearly depending on location). I haven’t noticed any mold, but I also haven’t taken apart the back of the cab lining to look at those vents.

However, having visited Miami twice, Minnesota rarely stays crazy humid for as long as Miami did when I was there in August 2 years ago. 83F temp and 77F dewpoint all week long. lol. It was actually hotter in Minnesota during the same week, but not as humid.

It makes me wonder if those vents get stuck in the open position, allowing rain to come in?

Those vents are just flexible pieces of rubber or film that flap back and forth. there is no positively "closed". Have the dealer show it to you.

Well the dealer said that those Vent need to be replaced and since the carpet is wet the carpet needs to be professionally cleaned or replaced. Their estimate was over 4k

I would ask for pictures of the vents and the underside of the carpet.
There is a sound deadening material under the carpets that are scrapped up and replaced under the Toyota guidelines for cab mounted light water intrusion repair. I would want to know if that has been compromised, or could you DIY at home, pull and clean the carpets before the mold gets to that level.

Looks like it would be a DIY job, if it were my truck. I would not want to loosen the bed and move it back, as I believe is necessary to get the new vents in. I understand that portion involves removing a bunch of bolts and having four people lift and move the bed slightly.

Removing the seats and carpet, I've already done before and is just time consuming. It would suck if this were a daily driver.

The carpet and insulation is sold separately so you could shampoo the rug and replace the jute insulation.
My cost for a rug and carpets for a customers car was less than 400 dollars.
That estimate is grossly inflated, I took the entire interior out in about an hour.
