Hello everyone, hopeing I can get some advice here. Became curious today and crawled under my new 2019 DC OR 6MT to stare at all the clean drivetrain parts and upon looking at the side of the pumpkin (differential) that received the driveshaft I noticed what looked like where some fluid had weeped out from the seal.

What do y'all make of this? Truck has only 6xxx miles on it.

Clean that area good with some Dawn. Then check it again in a week or so. Probably nothing to worry about.

This is what I did and checked later and it didn’t have any marks so I forgot about it...

I'll try that and if it doesn't solve it I'll update. Thanks for the advice.

Update: axle is leaking more. No drips or anything just more fluid. I cleaned it with dish soap as mentioned above.

There was a recall out a while back about differential leaks/seepage on 2016/17 models.

    Recall Number: 17V285000
    Recall Date: 04/27/2017
    Component: POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DIFFERENTIAL UNIT

    Summary
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Tacoma vehicles. Oil may leak from the area where the rear differential carrier is assembled to rear axle housing.

    Consequence
If the vehicle is operated with an insufficient amount of oil in the rear differential, the differential may seize and cause a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.

    What Owners Should Do
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear differential for oil leakage. Based on the inspection, dealers will either tightening the fastening nuts or replace the fastening nuts and gasket. If the rear differential components are damaged, the rear differential carrier assembly will be replaced. The repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall June 19, 2017. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is H0G.
