On the way back from Home Depot, my dash lit up light a Christmas tree saying brake problems. Something happened and I'm leaking brake fluid from the passenger side rear wheel. Luckily I was only about 10 minutes away from home in very light traffic and limped home, with no brakes. It's the first time it's happened to me on this truck, the only other time was on a 50 year old vehicle, which I guess is more expected.

    Fun times!

I haven't had a chance to get it into the garage and up on jack stands to take a look yet, just wondering if folks wanted to start taking bets? Any thoughts?

Rear wheel cylinder. You're going to have to disassemble your drums a bit. Remember to take pictures before so you have something to reference

Should they be replaced in pairs? Do you know if I should expect the other side to go at some point?

happened to me couple months ago, leakage from rear left wheel. Towed to the mechanic, shoes gone completely, metal on metal, drum gone too, of course piston in cylinder stuck. Ended up replacing drums, shoes, and different small guts from inside.

I'll go with brake cylinder too.

Miles on truck? Last brake clean/lube/service?

It has 72k on it, and it has been a while since those brakes were cracked open, plus, it's seen a lot of mud, so I'm guessing it is toast.

I will plan on doing the same thing to both sides, thanks fellas for the pointers! I will post an update once I have cracked those bad boys apart this evening. I was hoping to have other plans this weekend but it looks like it's not going to happen.

I don't recognize the grey thing where my speed sensor is on my vehicle. Did Toyota change the color and shape between the OP's 2019 and my 2021?

That’s some aftermarket bling. Sensor skid plate essentially.

Yeah, that is aftermarket. I've broken so much shit I was looking for anything that might give me some protection.

OP, it looks to be plastic. Is that correct? I was planning on making my own shields at some point in the future.

The one I have is all aluminum. I can take some closer pictures when I tear things down.

I would, just for piece of mind. But do one at a time so you have a reference point for the drums

Almost without a doubt, blown o ring in the rear cylinder. Ask how I know. You probably have some brake pressure that fades as you continue to brake. Keep and eye on the reservoir so it doesn't completely drain and you need to bleed the master.

Buy two, but only replace the broken one and have a spare handy. I never leave home without one after I had to leave my truck at the bottom of black bear pass in telluride, and get up at 3am to run 3 hours round trip to Montrose for the nearest spare.

Always looking to modify! Check out my Instagram @TacoPandaTRD
SDHQ makes them. They’re made out of aluminum. I have them on my truck too. If you off-road they’re good to have. If a rock or stick smashes the abs sensor your dash will light up like a Christmas tree and go into limp mode which could leave you stranded.

Thanks for the link. I definitely will fab my own using the axel nuts for mounting instead. I've seen that method promoted by some company and like it a bit better. Thanks again.
