Leaking In Rear Differential?

    Hey guys,


    I just recently discovered there was a leak near the rear differential. Where should I start? 2007 Tacoma V6 PreRunner.

    Make sure bolts are tight. As long as it's not leaving a mark on the ground i'd send it for a few years before I change anything.

    and i'd not use a paper gasket, that's convenient for assembly. Use RTV like ultra black or ultra grey or the proper FIPG.

    Thank you for the input guys. One more question, since this is a big job and I have to take out the drive shaft away from the differential to work with. While I'm there, I'm planning to replace the rear differential pinion seal gasket. Does anybody have the OEM part number for the Tacoma Gen 2 V6 PreRunner?

    Pinion seal (41201C in the diagram) PN: 90311-44007 but you will need to set pinion lash correctly to accomplish this without doing more harm than good. Either an ain't broke, don't fix it scenario or is one thing you should leave up to a pro gear shop.

    Pinion seal is def something I WOULDNT replace just because. I have 250 something thousand miles and never had a leak from the pinion seal

    Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
    Plus if you have not previously installed a solid spacer then a new crush sleeve an all that non sense is will be required. Cheers!

    Pinion seal is not the easiest shade tree job as the others have said. it's not that replacing it is hard, it's setting up the preload after the fact.

    you have to completely disassemble the brakes for this job. a "while you are in there" sort of task is to replace all the brake drum hardware and shoes. There are a couple inexpensive tools that make that job a lot easier, but it's still frustrating.
