Just got this replacement OEM rack in the mail from McGeorge toyota.
    PN 44250-35042

Not sure if this is normal or not for a new part. But the steering input part of the housing is leaking oil. Can't really tell where from, but maybe the ports.

Is this assembly lube or something?

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Your Rack was just shipped across The Country .

I would clean things up Invert the rack see if it leaks again.

Was the box damaged I hear tell customers getting New Racks packed very poor.

Worse case send it back the next one might be worse!!

Normal. Just lube used for assembly.

Box wasn't too bad, but the input shaft had broken through some of the carboard. Doesn't appear to be too beat up.

That's what I was thinking possibly, just surprised there's so much of it and on the outside.
My buddy ordered the same rack from the same place shipped to the same town and he said his was dry.

    This thread or the other?...

You'll want to make sure the large bolt just offset from the center is torqued to the correct spec as well (doesn't take much).

@eon_blue I remember you adjusted yours once or twice already?

Yeah the rack guide...on my old rack I messed with it to try and correct some steering issue I had, it's crazy sensitive and if it's over or under torqued it will really mess with your steering. Brand new though it should be already set to the correct spec (19 ftlbs I believe)

My new rack wasn't all oily like his is, I would be concerned too unless it just appears to be lubricant from assembly like mentioned above

Ya I would sure hope that the rack guide be pre-torqued from the factory.
I'm gonna give McGeorge a call tomorrow and see what they have to say about it.
The condition of the box isn't really reassuring either....

Yeah I got mine from them too. Box was pretty beat up but no issues with the rack. Didn't need to mess with the rack guide either on it.
