Second time changing this coolant/upper radiator hose since I got the truck 2 years ago. Both ends of the upper hose look like this. What’s causing my hose to do this and leak? Lower radiator hose looks fine. Is this electrolysis?

Where are you getting the hoses I've never seen a new hose do that the upper rad hose for my 5vz was like $20 from Toyota.

    I make them myself!

Just kidding. This one probably came from autozone, but what’s the chances of the hose the truck came with coming from autozone? Lol because samething was happening to that hose.

Their hoses should not be that bad. What coolant are you running in it?

I think originally it had the red Asian coolant but I dumped that for the Prestone green coolant. Now it does have a little red tinge to it in the reservoir so maybe some got trapped in the heater core and they mixed, but even if that’s the case the Prestone coolant can mix with all colors it says and it hasn’t gummed up at all. Need to check if it’s acidic tho. Headed to store for PH strips my multimeter won’t go low enough to check for voltage in the coolant.

Been trying to find information on a bad battery or bad alternator causing electrolysis. If a bad ground connection can cause it then couldn’t a bad battery? I know for sure my batteries swollen so I’m headed to grab a new one anyway.

I'd flush your coolant thoroughly and then put the pink stuff back in and replace the hose with an OEM Toyota one.

I'm going to say the green coolant is part of the problem flush it and run red coolant. And replace all of the hoses that are doing that. 2 of my trucks have had green in them when I got them and had nothing but problems in the cooling system. 3 of my trucks have had OE red all of their life and have never had a problem+600,000mi between them.

    This.

They work well and are super cheap from Toyota. I have multiples in different sizes just in case.

They're ready to be installed too.

Alright I’ll be flushing back to the pink coolant even tho when I got the truck it had the pink stuff in it and this same exact issue. As far as clamps go, it’ll delay me another day on this flush if you guys think it’s very necessary to have spring clamps on both ends?

Do you have a source for buying an assortment at once, or just order individuals from Toyota?

I had purchased each one individually, but bought multiple all at once knowing "A" was for the radiator hoses, "B" were for the transmission lines, and so forth.

Learned long ago that OE hoses on Asian vehicles are the lowest risk of fit and failure problems.

Think I had a bad radiator cap causing too much pressure in upper hose sometimes. One thing I didn’t change when I previously changed this hose and coolant.

Most auto parts stores will lend you a tester for caps or will test it for you and the spec should be on the top of the cap.
