I got an aluminum housing. It finally came off with a hand towel in between the housing and wrench. I guess it was not getting a good grip. We also added a bit of heat before trying again. I’m just glad it came off.

yep I had issues with mine every time I changed the oil even with it torqued to spec, still thought I was going to break something each time. No issues with the aluminum one. I also have a really nice fitting filter wrench with very little slop.

Well, They got me this weekend! New Jersey dealers are notorious for being CROOKS! This just confirms it! My guess is they are submitting for reimbursement from Toyota for the "ToyotaCare" maintenance that is covered for the first two years. They never did the work!.

5k "ToyotaCare" service performed - I brought the truck in for the first Oil Change @ 1,124 miles (I was charged for this oil change because they said it was not covered by the 5k service) Old habit.... I always change the oil at 1k to get the "break in crap" out of the crankcase!

    10k
"ToyotaCare" service performed at 4,459 miles Truck was brought in for warranty work (Service paperwork states oil and filter changed)

20k "ToyotaCare" Service performed at 7,054 miles Truck was brought in for warranty work (Service paperwork states oil and filter changed)

After checking the oil level last week I noticed that the oil was significantly overfilled. Upon further inspection, I noticed that the oil was black! So, I changed the oil myself at 7,701 on 10/15

When I changed the oil it looked like chocolate milk. The bolts on the skid plate were never accessed to access the oil filter (No indication that a socket was used to remove the bolts on the skid plate- Paint factory applied - was not scuffed)

This is not the color of synthetic oil with 650 miles! and yes I broke the plastic housing and replaced it with a metal one.

Hmmm not sure, I went to a different Toyota dealer (Not the idiots who screwed me!) This is what they gave me as an exact replacement for the plastic one. It's perfect!- Fits like a glove. 500 miles No leaks at all.

because "technically" it doesnt. the metal housings I believe are on the Sienna, and Camry but, not the Tacoma. they are trying to look it up with your year, make, model vin... your's comes with plastic, that is all they can look up for you, and "be accurate" for your vin.

we are using a "known" part number, that works on our same 3.5L V6 platform. I have one on my 2019 Tacoma sport. Ski

Have you already got a proper filter housing tool? Just asking because it's a must have IMO. I purchased an aluminum housing but just in case I ever run into a issue on my Tacoma or son's Scion.

I lodged a complaint with Toyota. Corporate customer service called (Glen Toyota the dealer) and the service manager said "they made a mistake" (Twice !!) when they stated that they changed my oil and filter during the 2 recalls. (I.e. they were submitting for the ToyotaCare reimbursements and never doing the work.) The CSR said "It's not a big deal because the first oil change is due at 10k"! I explained to her "It's the principle! They falsified service records and didn't do the work" I paid for the first oil change at 1k (I always drop the oil at a thousand miles - old habit....) I paid $$$ for that one out of pocket. The dealer records show that they changed the oil at 4,500 and 7,000. I guess the dealer thought that no one ever reads the service receipts and wouldn't call them out on it. I don't trust these A-holes to begin with - This just solidifies it! Now, when I bring my wifes vehicle in (To a different dealer!) I make them bring me to it and show me what they're taking off and putting on. I like the idea of ToyotaCare - But it's BS when they don't do the work!

So, that picture was the filter at 7k. If the dealer actually did the oil/filter changes when they said they did it would be pristine!

Does Toyota have an OEM tool? I have a hard time finding a part number, also my housing didn't come with the drain plug, so I have to order that too
