Hey... I'm sure this is on here somewhere so I apologize in advance but...

2017 TRD Sport Manual Trans which means 4.30 gears and open diffs... but the 8.75" rear end.

I am looking to install a rear locking differential and would LOVE electronic over air. I have a set of Nitro 5.29's waiting for the party just trying to go with rear e-locker. I do not need to go with factory shit and it's all going to be wired aftermarket anyhow so...

CAN I use the ARB ET232 Rear E-Locker if it's installed off a separate switch without tying into any factory wiring? I assume I could, but somehow this isn't coming up easily in searches anywhere. IT seems straight forward though.

Thanks, and sorry again if this is covered already and I am just not finding it!!

It is. You have it correct. No need to involve the existing vehicle electronics. Know nothing about the ARB ET232 or its fitment though. I will look that one up.

EDIT: Found nothing on arbusa.com website on electronic only lockers? Perhaps ET232 should have been typed RD232?

I was always under the impression that the most straightforward solution was to buy a pre assembled diff from ECGS.

Sure makes the whole process easier when you can remove the existing diff and install a new one the same day. I do a lot of my own work, but Diff setup is not one of the things I care to do. it's too delicate and easy to do wrong.

ARB doesn’t sell electric lockers as far as I know. You would be looking at a Harrop E-locker.
As stated above a great way to go about this swap is buying complete thirds/clamshells from ECGS. I did that back in august when I regeared. Excellent service and the diffs have been awesome.

Check out this vid before you decide on a Harrop. This is an extreme use case but something to consider. ARBs have more moving parts and you need the pneumatics to engage/disengage but they don't do this...

Hmmm. I have been researching this topic for a while as well. electric locker in a 21 taco sport with 6 speed manual, SWEET. Seems simple enough to just install the center section from a TRD off road as it has the 8 3/4 diff, Has the matching gear set as my TRD manual gear box. install the command switch and bypass the computer as it will not accept the command to lock as the sport is not configured to display the locker selected ( I think). Anyone have knowledge of the workings of a TRD sport computer? Here in Atlantic Canada with so much slob snow this would be a great tool to have in the box (so to speak). I don't do enough serious off roading to justify the cost of an ARB or air locker setup. Going to try and find the wiring manuals for a 21, might be tough to obtain.
The electric rear locker would be an affordable option. There is a guy on the web in the US that custom builds toyota switches and connectors and I do have a spare slot at my left knee sub panel. might be as simple as plug and play!
    anyone tried this yet?????????

Perhaps someone else will direct you to a thread with the proper info. I can't as I find this site to be beyond my search capabilities. The Toyota E-Locker has a separate CPU controlling it, if I remember correctly from one of those threads. One of its features is different voltage levels to activate the locker and another lower voltage to keep it locked. So this is not a simple plug and play.

ARB lockers are air lockers. If you want an aftermarket E locker then you want to go with a Harrop one. It should come with the wiring and a switch
