Why not wait until 2020s are out? You get a few extra nice features plus you pay a little more into the Chevy to keep yourself a little more afloat. I'd finance but that's just me, I'd prefer to just have my vehicle at the end and not worry about an end of lease purchase price, or worry about returning it with scuffed paint or any damage etc. You'll have the Tacoma for a really long time so why not have it be yours? 450/mo payments you'll have it in 4-5 years if you negotiate a good final price and then you make a nice sum back if you decide you want to sell it a few years after that or even trade it in.
If you're going to purchase I think it would also be a solid choice to try to negotiate a set of running boards for free or very minimal from the dealership. They might appreciate the loyalty of purchasing from their location.

I'm not sure how Mitch65[OP] determined he had $2k in negative equity on his Colorado. Assumed he got a trade-in quote and it was $2k less than the balance of his loan.

I always, ALWAYS bring my HP 12C financial calculator with me, reverse Polish Notation and all ;-)

Term, Interest Rate, Principle, and Payment Amount. Give me a couple of those variables and it will calculate the rest of them. Nice for finding out real costs. I know the game and always come off as a dumb monthly payment shopper. Usually when the F&I sees the HP he knows the gig is up and we can get to business.

I leased a 19 TRD off Road. Put $5,500 down and my payments are 365/mo with around 780 credit score. Im going to buy mine out towards the end of the lease. It seemed to be the easiest way for me to afford getting one. Love it so far after about 8 months.

It always does. So many people on this forum stroke their ego so hard they give themselves a boner. Who gives a crap whether someone owns, owes, or wishes for a Tacoma. It’s a truck at the end of the day lmao. Most of those guys are up to their eyeballs in debt and plain out lie about their financial situation.

I leased too, still not sure if I made a good deal, study up on leasing before you go and I'd say definitely know if you're gonna lease or buy 1st!

    2019 OR
    $38k sticker
    -$3,000 off negotiating
    -4,500 for trade in
Got $350/month for 2 years with 15k/year in miles
Seemed good at the time, my guess is it was close to fair but I wanted to try the 3rd Gen long term before buying

    $4,500 trade + (24 months * $350) = $12,900 total = $537.50 month = poor deal

It’s called a flease for a reason. The dealers love them cause it much more profitable.

    Interesting...
My experiences with leasing/buying is that buying give me much more flexibility (including whether to bail or not) at a lower price and much less hassle if I do decide to bail.

I mean, you are going to be into the truck for about $13k anyway, why not buy it and have some equity? Not knocking your decision at all, just don't understand the reasoning and I hear if often.

Take a look at when I joined TW...I wasn't sure I would like my 2nd Gen. So I bought it...Turns out I hated some things about it, mostly the transmission. After a year I sold it for what I owned on it. No negative equity and I put zero dollars down (!). If I had leased, I would have been on the hook for thousands $$ owned on the remaining term of the lease.

If you are buying a vehicle that depreciates like a rock then yes, lease before buy might make sense, but on a Taco with the insane resale value I'm not so sure.

    And...AND..

We get to see you again in 24 months and fleece you once more! I LOVED selling leases, churning the same customers over and over.
    Priceless ;-)

I would get the sport. A-Trac will do a lot for ya. I wished I got the sport instead. I thought I would be off road more with this and I haven’t.

That much down and with that credit score, and you still have a 365 monthly payment. What was the cost of the truck and how many months? Seems like you could have financed with that down payment and not been too much more on the monthly payment. Especially if you are planning on buying it anyway.

Sounds like they basically stole the trade, terrible to think about. Though being in Texas, wouldn't that have paid my taxes?

But if you paid $400,000 for the house and you own it,and its now worth $300,000,it might not be negative equity, but you are for sure losing value anyway you look at it.

I did it! I’m waiting for finance now! Got a 3/36 lease on a 19 TRD OR for $467 a month and that was with $2,200 negative so I’m a happy camper. I was paying 436 a month for the Colorado and I hated it so I super stoked! I’ll post a picture soon
