    Hello,
Bought A Tacoma OffRoad with the premium package in February. This is the first car I have owned with leather seats. The leather seats on it have been great but I have about 3k miles on the truck and the little square texturing is already worn down in some parts of the seat to the point where it is smooth. Is this something I should be worried about? I am not a massive guy, 170lbs and I just wear blue jeans to work and back. If this is not a common thing, how do I mitigate how quickly my seat is wearing through? Thanks for your help guys!

My 2019 has the same condition (worn down squares) after 2 years and 25,000 miles. It is way more noticeable on the driver's side than the passenger. I can't tell if it is going to be an issue going forward or not. The softex leather on my wife's 2015 4Runner still looks good with no issues.

If your shorter than average or the truck is higher and you wear work jeans, as you twist and slide off the seat it will wear.
Usually right at the left side of the seat or bolster area.

How bad is it? (Pictures). I have a 2019, and there are a few squares which look a bit different, but they aren't completely smooth like you are describing.
When I get into the truck, I try my best not to slide in and out, but rather step up into it.

Its probably pretty difficult to see (granted I just got out of it). But this is the Driver Vs Passenger. You can see the wear right where my thighs would be. I am 5' 10" for reference, so I am not exactly a dwarf, but I do like my seat pretty high. Hard to imagine that it would be the hundred or so times I got in and out of the car would cause this much wear, but maybe thats it. Aside from the obvious seat cover, what would be a good way to protect the seats?
Edit: I should also say that I do not keep anything in my back pocket.

I only got 300 miles on mine so I don’t see any wear yet. However, every single vehicle I’ve owned had leather seats, it’s a must have for me and these Tacoma seats feel like the cheapest leather seats I’ve had. I agreed to purchase the Tacoma before seeing it in person(I test drove cloth seats). When I finally saw the leather I was tad disappointed, even the aftermarket Katzkin leather is better. I’m not sure how exactly to describe Tacoma OEM leather.. it feels like a synthetic pressed wrap or something. It’s really no big deal in the end, all leathers wear and tear, even the best most expensive ones. Good news is Tacoma leather has a zipper on the back and looks easy to replace... once it wears down I’ll swap to Katzkin, local shop quotes $1500-1800 for full swap.

Thats good to hear. Katzkin looks fairly OEM. Is it OEM styled but higher quality materials, or are they just literally OEM clones?

I can't speak for the Tacoma, but my wife's Highlander had Katzkins pre-installed by the dealer when we bought it new. The only way you can tell it's not OEM is the Katzkin tag. If I was going aftermarket leather, I would go Katzkin 100%.

Please keep in mind, none of these trucks come factory with actual leather.

Katzkin makes leather seats for tons of brands and models. They have OEM style or you can pick your own custom and add stuff like TRD on the back if you want to. I’ve seen the Katzkin seats in person and they feel tougher.

    Myriad,
Sorry, I guess what I was asking is that are they the same material as OEM or are they of a higher quality. Since this took less than three months to happen, I wouldnt want to deal with this a couple months from now.
Thanks a bunch for your help my man

Funny mine still looks new except the bolster area which gets that crushed look. I use chemical bros leather cleaner and conditioner on mine 1-2 times a year still looks new no wear.

Higher quality. First time I’ve seen OEM leather as bad as Tacoma this time around. I feel it’s just a matter of time before it’ll wear badly. If you plan to keep your Tacoma for 5+ years, I suggest just keeping the seats and replace once it is needed. If you plan to get rid of it around warranty expiration maybe just wait and see. If it really tears before warranty is expired, they should do something or possibly even out of “good faith” if you still have warranty.

Agree. I don't care for the Taco leather. But the moonroof is nice. Which they won't sell without the leather

The softex is 100% synthetic, that’s why it’s still looks good.

3rd gen tacos have leather in the middle of the seats only, a conditioner and a leather protector wouldn’t hurt.

    Wow...

Do you clean your seat? Soil is abrasive right, so it will wear down those squares in no time. Grab a white rag and spray some leather cleaner on it, I’m sure the rag will be black. My seats still look brand new, I’ve been maintaining them ever since my truck was new. Gotta clean them and condition every 3-4 months, takes 10 mins.
