Has anyone replaced cloth seats with leather seats from a salvage yard? If so, what was your experience?

Are they in a good condition and were they from a Tacoma?

No pics. I haven’t contacted a salvage yard yet. Didn’t want to waste my time if it isn’t a simple bolt replace and the price ain’t right. $600 for covers may not be the way to go if I can get actual seats for that price from a salvage yard. Like from a wrecked 3rd gen taco.

I would never buy seats out of a wrecked vehicle. The seat frames "can" get pretty hammered in a wreck

You’d have to find limited or pro seats.

I’ve upgraded seats on previous vehicles but not my Tacoma. As long as you do some research to see if they’ll bolt right in. Just make sure the wrecking yard seats haven’t been exposed to rain or snow due to broken windows/windshield. I wouldn’t be surprised if Toyota pre-wired all the Tacomas for heated seats as well.

The seats have air bags. How did the truck get wrecked bad enough for a junk yard and the bags didn't deploy?

    Valid point.

OP...unless you find a salvage yard in your backyard, the cost of the seats plus shipping will likey be more than doing Clazzio, Katzkin, or any other aftermarket option.

You can pull the leather off of the seat and put it on your seat when you take off the cloth. Kind of how katskin works

Not all airbags deploy in every type of accident. A truck that was hit hard only from the back should have good, dry seats. Even a straight, head on crash where the front airbags went off might still have intact seats (unless Toyota changed the way their air bags work on the 3rd Gens)

I can’t find a 3rd gen in a salvage yard. None in the local area for me.

Yeah nope I rather buy a set of Roadwire or Katskins vs. trying to remove and reinstall used seat covers.

You wouldn’t remove the leather skin and place it on your cloth buckets — you’d just swap the seats themselves. Easy to do on any car i’ve take the seats out of. Backseat will be more complicated than the fronts. I fully intend to do that swap myself once the dog fully trashes these cloth ones. Check ebay too
