    I mulled it over. The only reasonable solution would be to shut it down, lock it, then tap the remote starter. Here's why. If you leave it running and lock it using the valet key, it's still very easy to break in and steal it. If it's running under the remote start function, it will disable the engine as soon as the door is opened or an unauthorized foot touches the brake. It might feel silly and illogical to shut down a car only to start it again, but it's the more secure method.

    I have a coworker who lives in a small town where no crime ever makes the news. His truck got stolen two nights ago because it was in his barn with keys in the ignition. It wound up being the guy's own brother who was on a binge, just walked away from wrapping his car around a pole, and was close enough to "borrow" other people's vehicles (plural). This guy wound up totalling at least three vehicles before police tracked him down and put him in timeout.

    Even in the perfect little town, you never know.
