Do all the mods that you can yourself and save on labor. I’ve done everything except put on my new tires.

I hear you. I have all of those right now. Shocks, UCA, front bumper, rear bumper with swing out and full size spare, sliders and tires. Had multiple alignments (life time alignment from firestone is money) and need new brake pads already at 23k miles.

That being said, it actually drives fine. I'm getting an average of 18-19 in the city and 20-21 on the freeway even with all these mods. Definitely not fast in any means but it's a truck so I drive it like one. My last car ran 12's so I know what fast cars feel like too. No ragrets.

When my 2013 was taken by a moron who crossed the center line I told myself I wasn’t modding my 3G outside of the wheels. In fact the first few lines of my members ride thread said as much.

    About that...

I hear ya brother. I spent about 6K or 7K on my mods too. And really enjoyed them. Also, I know that this is a Taco and not a JK. I'm still willing to bet that you would give your left nut for the driving characteristic that I currently enjoy provided that you could keep the OR performance too. I would reconsider mods if that were true. But everybody knows it will never happen unless you have deep pockets and can afford heavy power mods to go along with the OR mods.

I've had plenty of modded vehicles. I'm going to take it easier here. My last truck was a Ram 1500 that I had done plenty to: Lockers, gears, tires, suspension, trans, new engine with lots of goodies three years ago, lighting, stereo, et al. I don't see myself taking this one on anything other than easy and moderate trails and it's my daily driver. Right now it's got SEMA rims, BFG 265/75/17 AT (C) and a spacer for 2 more inches in the front. Later, I'll replace the coilovers and rear shocks with something that will be a little better off road but still ride well, and is rebuildable. I'll add some lighting (fogs and ditch lights) and maybe a rack. I will likely fab a set of bolt on-nerfs to protect the doors.

No engine tuning or exhaust, no big tires, no big suspension mods, and nothing chopped, welded on, or spliced in. I've had a lifetime of that stuff. I have the tools and skill set to fab lots of things but I'm not interested in road noise, loss of mileage, additional maintenance, or the compromises that come from modding the crap out of everything. I've had lots of vehicles and have always had the itch to change things. I'm going to try to reserve that for project vehicles and leave the Tacoma largely stock. One of the reasons I bought the Tacoma is its reliability. I had a HiLux 4X4 back in the 90's and it was a work horse.

I've highly considered the turbo kit once that comes out, but that's just more power for a off road vehicle when I don't do any prerunning type stuff. I can take that same money and build an Exocet for not much more. This is the next project car for me.

Most things on my truck will stay stock till im out of warranty and they fail.

Suspension I dont need till the old is worn out, same with tires.

bumpers I can wait till mine either get hit, or get to be more touch up paint than bumper (at this rate that should be next month)

I'd do what you want. It's your truck & money. Make it yours & if you worried about losing in an accident do an addendum to your policy?
I really didn't do much to my truck - shell, step bars, nice seat covers, roof rack, weathertech liners, and EGR vent visors. My money all goes to powersports.

Nice brother. I've got a friend (coworker) that owns a traditional style "Sandy". They have tons of labor and mods invested. There aren't a lot of places around my area to enjoy that type of wheeling. So my friends usually trailer to the west. I've recently had the opportunity to vacation in southern Nevada. And we set aside a couple days just to drive the area. Would be nice to have that area as my playground.

Sorry OP for the stray. I've got a burning question that I just got to ask. Are these the visors that fit inside the frame? If so, do they "score" the outside of the window? I usually use the surface mount visors. Thanks.

If you don't mod the shit out of your truck, you must quit this forum. I saw a 3rd Gen the other day with zero mods like mine and the guy was happy!

Mine is good to go just like it is. But I keep adding things to it. Nothing crazy so far. Just things like tint, weather tech floor mats, door sill protectors, bed mat and some of those letters for the tailgate. I imagine that will continue for as long as I own it. I can see bumpers and sliders happening eventually.

I tend to leave my stuff, stock. The designers and engineers probably know more how to build good vehicle than I do, so why change it. ;)

The are in channel all the way down rests on weatherstripping no scoring that I noticed. I've had Weathertech before too on another truck. No issues

I am stock, and I made it in there lol.

OP, my Taco will remain stock as far as wheels, tire size and suspension goes. I'm done chasing the dragon, I tow, and commute in this truck. But there are plenty of other mods that can keep your entertained and the "bug" at bay

Tried to leave it stock but found a few things I didn't care for so I made those changes and leaving it at that.

Tires/rims, small lift, sliders, seat coves and a shell. That's it and I'm happy.

Pretty much in line with this. Once I pay it off, I might save the same amount as the monthly payment every month for 6-12 months and put it towards a maintenance/mod fund.
