Does it drain my key battery leaving the key in the truck whilst parked in my garage?

I read only tidbits about this discussion here using the search function, however I can't find the straight dope on it.

Please keep in mind I have a manual trans with an actual real key with lock/unock buttons on the key itself. Might be different
from the folks who have a transponder type fob.

That said, I don't believe my truck does any "hunting" for my key though.

    Thoughts??

I think it does if you leave it in the ignition, even if it's turned off

if you just leave it in the cup holder or whatever, you're ok

I leave mine on the seat while at work. Doesn’t seem to have any impact. I think it’s all good.

I leave mine in the ignition. Yes, . . . the ignition is "off."

as a former tow truck the key pictured should not be an issue. Its the keys like my wife has for her 2014 push button start Camry that you have to move away from the car. Lots of jumps starts I did when they first started coming out with the rfid/push button start cars.

There's a transponder in the fob but it's for the ignition start only. I guess you could call it a 'chip'

You can how I cut it out here
