I had a set of those bulbs in amber for marker lights in a Dodge truck. They had a tendency to flicker (at a very high rate, but obvious), were pretty weak, and yes, as you correctly pointed out, very, very directional. Between those LEDs and the really crappy ceramic load resistors I really learned to despise Autozone LED offerings. (or was it O'Reilly? Can't remember now) They were far inferior to the incandescent bulbs they replaced.

As you correctly stated, the wider beam pattern of multi chip bulbs emulates (somewhat) an incandescent bulb, which is a good thing when it's enclosed within a reflector that was designed to accommodate said incandescent bulb. That means more light output, and I like everyone to know when I hit the brakes! :) :)

They are 1980's technology in 2015, when LED technology is advancing every 6 months. Not trying to get into a critique here with ya and rain on the OP's thread though, so I'll leave it be. To each their own my friend! :)

    Just a few LEDs...
Really not trying to argue here but I said the package was 1980's tech. The actual LED chip is much more modern than what was available way back then...believe me I know (I was there) Anyway, If you like the multi-chip bulbs with a wide viewing angle these are definitely not for you but I like them. :D

By the way, I have sampled various LEDs from many sources, VLEDs, Superbrightleds.com, Oznium, etc. I have a collection that is always growing. :)

I used the one that comes first when you scroll down that page. Looks like the second one will fit as well, and they're brighter. Little more expense though.
