Hi everyone, I'm looking to order an Avid light bar for my 2013 DCSB OR. I've got a couple questions I couldn't find the answers to, and I live in a smaller town so I cant go to a store and look at displays....

I understand the LED bars don't have as much throw, so my plan is to mount 2 PIAA 520 drivers and either 2 PIA 510 fogs or a 20" light bar.

I'll mount one brand on the low bar and one on the high bar of the Avid.

What are your thoughts? I'm not "sold" on any configuration, I just need to start somewhere. I like that the 520's can run on the street as hi beams.

Onther option is to go with some drivers then replace my fogs with some Morimoto XB LED fogs.

Appreciate any advice! 90% street 10% dirt road driving.

LED bars should have just as much (if not more for the higher quality ones) throw as halogen. Just make sure you are getting the "spot" setup and not the "flood."

    Good to know... thanks.

The PIAA's I could use on the street, I couldn't run a LED bar on the streets can I? I live in UT, so there are deer and other critters in the mountians I'd like to avoid!

    absolutely incorrect.
if you spend the same amount of money on a halogen light set up as you would on a light bar, the distance of the halogen will blow the led bar out of the water.

No I believe LED light bars are only for off-roading. Like he said make sure you get the spot and not flood type of light. I have the 520's behind my Satoshi grill and I love them!!

Is there much of a difference between the 510's and the 520's?

There is a pair of 510's for sale on the forum!

Check with your local police station. Tons off lights are illegal for street use whether they are halogen or LED.

LEDs are more expensive because they outlast halogen. Obviously you'll probably get more light if you have 10 halogen offroad lights lined up against one 20" or 30" LED light bar.

    Definitely wouldn't need 10.

A pair of KC day lighters bought for less than 100, $50 used most of the time, would shine further than most 50 inch spot led bars. (most)
The LEDs definitely outlast the halogen, and use less draw. I suggest a combination for the best of both worlds. :)
    Just my $.02

Having less draw is a nice feature of the LEDs, especially if you are really going to have them running for extended periods of time. Halogens could require an extra battery setup depending on use... and that ain't cheap. ;)
